Oh my wonderful DH!

  • Yesterday for the first time my DH talked with me about his paunch! He is very active and pretty thin, but is getting a "rootbeer" belly. He told me yesterday that from the back I look like I did when we first got married!! LOL!!! I doubt that very much, but he made me laugh so hard and then he tried to apologize. Poor guy! He finally asked me about my eating habits and wondered if he could benefit from no breads, white stuff, etc. Because a lot of times, I cook him stuff that I won't eat, not that I can't, but won't. He hates me cooking two meals, one for him and one for me, so this morning he wants to eat the same thing that I do.

He went out the door with Fage yogart with red raspberries, 1/4 c. granola, and the innards of a chicken fajita with peppers, onions and 2% cheese and lowfat sour cream. Told him if he was still hungry to grab a plain salad from Wendy's. Tonight we were having a small turkey roast with roasted veggies and no potatoes or gravy. Now that will probably be a shock to his system. I told him what has been getting him in trouble here lately is the late night ice cream, cake, and chips. So they are out of here. He did try one of my NAS Blue Bunny Chocolate and Raspberry Ice Cream Bars and the sugar alcohols don't kill him like it does me, but it is a special treat for me once in a while. Hope he takes to this. I've switched to as much whole grained things as possible so we'll see.

I really notice what people are eating. I'm not critical about it or feel superior, but gosh I can't believe when I see people eat that much that I used to shovel it in the same way. I'm so grateful to God, that I have had a second chance at life because of WLS and with my DH wanting to eat "South Beachy" hopefully this will keep me on the road to wellness.

I'm still in a stall, but I'm healthier and feel better than I have in years, so bye-bye you hateful scales!!!
  • NanJ - your post made my laugh because that is so like my DH. He has been blessed with a slim figure - he's 6'1" and weighs about 190 lbs. Lately though, we've both noticed he's developing the teensiest bit of a pot belly - he has to undo his jeans when he's sitting down and really needs to go up another size. This is just annoying him slightly, as he's never had to consider his weight before.

But in typical DH style, he has asked for smaller portions at dinner and he's cut out the after-dinner sweet treat. All by himself. Just like that. No whining. No thinking wistfully of what might be in the cupboards. He's made up his mind what he needs to do and just does it. Unlike me... I still have my grumpy moments when I'm sick of the diet and want to devour everything in site. Why can't I be so matter-of-fact about it?

By the way, it sounds like I could take a few lessons from you, your stats say it all ! I was going to say good luck on losing the remainder, but I don't think you need it... you've got it sorted !
  • My DH who tall and around 185 came home yesterday stating the doctor says his cholestral is 235. Well, guess what?! He cannot have anymore ice cream, cheese and he must get off the whole milk. He is devasted. He asked me to buy him some turkey burgers and whats to know how my Boco burgers taste. No more chips and dip in the house. I am thrilled the junk food will be out of the house!!! It is so hard living with someone who just eats junk food all the time. Now the tables have turned on him. HA HA!!
  • my husband too has asked for better supper and lunch. he is also exercising with me. he cant button alot of his jeans, so he just piles them in the closet to the side. he refuses for me to buy more so on a diet he goes.
