Hugely Significant NSV (long story)

  • I'm wearing size 18 denim jeans this morning which is a hugely significant NSV for me. These jeans have laid in a drawer for about 5 years and until this morning still had their tags on.

The jeans represent a promise I made to myself around 11 years ago when I had lost much of my first pregnancy weight and was having difficulty maintaining the loss. As my jeans then were getting too tight I swore to myself that I would never buy a plus size jeans, I wanted to wear proper rigid waist denim jeans, no bigger than an 18. Anyhow, unfortunately this promise did not spur me any to keep the weight off and went totally off-track with my second pregnancy.

Fastforward to 2003 when I went on another weightloss campaign. I did well, lost over 50lbs and bought myself said jeans Unfortunately, although I was wearing size 18s in other clothes, the jeans came nowhere near me. I remember being very upset by this and thinking that I'll always be a 'fat woman' and what was the point of struggling to lose weight when I'd never be anything other than fat. These jeans set me on a long period when I didn't watch what I was eating which saw me pile the weight back on.

So today sees a victory on a promise to myself and victory over these formally diet-breaking jeans.

  • Congratulations Fitting into smaller clothes is so much fun, isn't it? ^^
  • Awesome job! Sounds like you are doing and feeling great! Keep it up!
  • Congratulations on your success these milestones are so important and spur you on. Enjoy your success you deserve it
  • Congratulations!I personally feel it is more fun to fit into a pair that has been hanging in my closet (hoping to fit again) , than to go buy new ones.
  • I agree with bargoo, "shopping" from my own closet was so rewarding!

Congratulations! Keep up the good work!
  • I think we all have a pair of jeans like that. I know I do!
    Congratulation.
  • Well done!!
  • Yea for you! What an accomplishment!

I have a pair of 16 pants brand new been in my closest for a few years as well. I cant wait to share your same success!
  • I just went shopping in my "skinnier" closet yesterday, it was great fun to pull out some skirts and pants that haven't seen the light of day for a while! Keep up the great work!
  • Good for you! I bet that was an awesome feeling!!
  • Great job!
  • Cry!
Oh, you nearly made me cry! What a wonderful day for you.

Somewhere, I have a stash of jeans. If I make my goal, I'll get to wear them this year. But, they probably aren't in style any more! DH has promised I can go shopping, though. (Too bad I don't really like shopping, but I'll enjoy the sizes I'll be able to buy!)
  • What a great story! Since you've rewarded yourself by 'shopping' in your own closet (no cost!), maybe you can also reward yourself with a ridiculously expensive, designer lipstick that will make you look even more fabulous in them
