at home ovulation predictors

  • not pregnant yet (as if the title doesn't lead you to that conclusion). we aren't trying, but we aren't preventing either. when i got pregnant with my daughter i was around 260-270lbs. i would like to be at that same weight before i get pregnant again. has anybody ever tried the at home ovulation kits? and did they work? there is such a small window every month that you can get pregnant in and i feel like if i had some idea of when ovulation was occurring we would have a higher chance of success when the time comes to get pregnant. so, has anybody tried them? any suggestions on brand? any success stories? any advice?? any anything???
  • I'm interested in hearing experiences with these as well!
  • jmb-
I havnt personally used them, but I have a lot of experience with them...heres why....

My daughter was born via surrogate mother to my husband and I. We had to track our surrogates cycles every month so we knew when the inseminations would be most effective.....

This is a good site for info... http://www.fertilityfriend.com/

there are instructions on each package of detectors you get...and honestly the cheap ones work just as good as the expensive ones.

Here is a good link to info... http://www.canfp.org/artman/publish/article_57.shtml
  • I have tried them. They are good but I suggwest getting a pack with alot of testing sticks. You can also order online just the sticks for pretty cheap. Watch what kit you get you want one that tells when the LH surge is abotu to happen. If you get one that tells when it happens then you have already ovulated and are a bit late! If you want more info feel free to PM me.
  • Dollar Tree has inexpensive ovulation test...it is cheaper than the kits and they worked for me. I started using them a week before I should ovulate then kept testing everyday until I got a positive. Remeber that we don't alway ovulate every month.

  • My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant since December with no luck. This past month I used an ovulation kit and BINGO!!! I am now 5 weeks pregnant. My cycle was all out of whack. I ovulated one whole month after the beginning of my last period. The kit was a life saver. I bought mine at Walmart for around $20. It came with 20 test sticks.

    Good Luck!
  • If you're looking at learning more about your cycle, Taking Charge of Your Fertility is an awesome book.

I don't have anything helpful to say about ovulation predictors since I've never used them, but I can tell you that you can learn to "read" your body and avoid spending money on tests. We use Fertility Awareness Method as our sole form of contraception and we've avoided pregnancy during something like 35 cycles and we got pregnant with DD our second month of trying.
  • So just FYI, since I have been irregular since going off BC, my OB/GYN recommended I try the disposable ones.
  • I ordered mine rom saveontests.com You can order alot in a pack, and they even have combo packs with pregnancy tests too. When I received mine, I didn't have to use them because I found out I was pregnant anyways! But I have heard of many people that have has success with them! Good luck!
  • If anyone is curious, I only had to use one of the kits! I'm pregnant!
