First Pilates Class

  • I just started at a new, AMAZING awesome new college a few weeks ago(transferred in), and am planning on taking full advantage of the fact that I just found out that there are FREE personal trainers at our disposal in the RecPlex -- you just have to make an appointment, woohoo!!

There are also close to 100 free group classes a week, and I've decided tonight I'm going to introduce myself to the RecPlex (haven't been in yet as my outside gym membership has yet to run out) by taking a PILATES CLASS!!

I've done some random Pilates stuff in dance classes, etc., but can anyone tell me what to expect/do/not do??

Love all you 20-somethings :-) (and other 3FCers!!!)
  • Your school sounds cool.

After my first Pilates class, my abs were sore for 3 days.

The best thing for me was to just get right back to it and keep trying.

I hope you have fun and stick with it. It's really good for developing core strength, at least it has been for me!
  • I can definitely imagine my abs will be sore for that long!!

It was HARD HARD HARD!! But great, though. I'll definitely be going back. :-)
  • I am not starting pilaties but I have my first kickboxing class tonight. I am so nervous! haha. I think I'm going to take water aerobics and yoga as well. 3 classes a week..should kick my butt into shape!

Goodluck with classes! this is my first time in a group fitness class.
  • I LOVE water aerobics. I miss it a lot. I can't find a class that works with my schedule unless I sign up for a gym membership... Which I don't want to do.... Alas. I did it twice a week for maybe 3 months and I was SO much stronger by the end of it. Talk about rock-hard thighs.... Oh how I miss them

I've never done pilates... That giant ball kind of intimidates me. How is it different from yoga? I guess I could look it up but it's really easy to just ask you guys
  • I LOVE pilates! I have never done it in a class, but I have several dvds that I do at home. They do work you core pretty hard-I usually substitute pilates for my ab workouts. I have never done pilates with the ball, but that looks interesting too. They have these Zumba classes at school here that I think I am going to try. They sound interesting-supposed to be based on African dances and are a pretty intense cardio workout.
