Anybody fly on Lufthansa airlines and fit?

  • Hi, I have posted here about fitting into airline seats, but my travel agent just told me who we were flying with, Lufthansa. I looked at their seat chart and it says their seats are only 15 inches wide.

This seems small and really small when you are flying overseas... Has anyone been on them? Are they a comfortable plane?

I am working my butt off, literally, to make sure by the end of april, I can fit into a seat, but I will still be big...

    Thanks for any input
  • Do you know what model plane you're going to be on? According to seatguru, the smallest Lufthansa economy seat is 17" (with several plane models up to 17.5" for economy).

  • I was on Luftansa probably 7 years ago. I was definitely over 350 and probably closer to 400. Although I was travelling with someone, so we likely raised the arm in between us. I don't remember any specific problems. I'm pretty sure we flew Air Canada to Frankfurt, and then was on Luftansa after that point.
  • thanks for letting me know. While I was waiting for a reply, I had called my travel agent back, she was the one who gave me the site I looked at telling me the dimensions.

I did go to seatguru.com and a couple of others. The seats are in fact listed as 17 to 17.5, much better sounding than the 15...

I started reading comments from people that have flown and everybody was more complaining that the seat in front of you encroached on your space the entire trip... and no leg room. Only one person said the seats were way too narrow.

I guess, I will just do my best to get down to where I was that summer I flew and fit okay. haha I know too, that it is going to be hard to determine really, since they are part of the star alliance, which was explained to me by the Travel agent, that it could be a number of carriers partnering with Lufthansa.

all I can do is try and get my weight down, really, plus, I retest my blood in a month with my doctor, due to being recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, but my numbers were so close, he will then tell me what my next steps are, so I think diet and exercise will help all the way around.
  • I'm new to this thread.......Hi!

I traveled a bunch this summer for the first time since gaining weight and I was FREAKING OUT about fitting into airplane seats.

It was fine. I was definately at top weight then. It was before I started dieting.

I would highly recomment buying your own seat belt extender to save you from the embarrassment of having to ask for one. I got mine from extend-it.com. They have different models for the different airlines.

If you are flying w/ someone then you will most definately be fine. You can raise the airmrest between you. Make sure your travel agent requests your seats be next to each other and have one either by the aisle or by the window.

    Have fun!
  • I flew them some years back when I was around 340... they are a little small but it's not to bad so going off your current weight I think you will be okay...
