  • Hello Everyone! I don't post that much but I am on this site at least 3 times a day. I just wanted to tell someone that I finally gave in and bought Alli. I have been following( or trying to) a low-calorie diet for the past 6 months. i have realized that just isn't working for me. I have obvious eating issues and need more accountability than just trying to eat right on my own. So I am headed back to weight watcher meeting. I am pretty comfortable with the program b/c I did it for a few months a couple years ago. I decided to give Alli a try as well. I feel so excited about finally making some decisions that will aid in my weightloss. I really hope that the combination of WW and Alli will produce results. I am going to start taking them tomarrow so I will have to let everyone know how it is going.

BTW- Do you think it is bad to go out for dinner and eat whatever I want before I start tomarrow or is that just an excuse to eat bad. I have been eating well for a few days and am already down 2-3 lbs. I just think with the side effects of Alli I will have to not eat ANYTHING super fattening for a while why not have something good tonight. I am leaving for dinner in 30 min. hopefully I get some advice by then
  • if you've decided to really follow a diet and do well, why would you go out for one "last" meal and blow all that effort?
  • I did like you and am combining Alli and WW. It's working well for me. I would caution you about eating high fat tonight and taking Alli in the AM. Alli suggests you eat low fat 2 or 3 days prior to taking your first dosage.

You're going to love your results. Keep us posted. I know I need inspiration and others probably do as well.
  • So what did you decided? Did you go out for the last meal? How did it go?
  • Does Alli actually work? Weight loss aides are sometimes scary. Does it have a lot of caffeine or anything like that? I haven't used a lot of aides (except the gum that didn't work), but friends tried a few different things are were basically really hyper. Not fun - they said that they felt "fuzzy" when taking things. I'm curious about how this works for you.
  • Alli 'works' in that it will absorb a small percentage of the fat that you are eating and really will make you avoid fat.

If you follow a low fat diet/Alli supported diet, etc it will prevent a minimal amount of fat calories from being absorbed. This is approximately 100 calories per day (sometimes a bit less, sometimes more, depends on how much fat you eat).

What Alli really does though is prevents you from eating a high fat diet or else you will get very bad side effects.

Personally, I think it is too expensive and doesn't do much. I already follow a low fat diet so I don't need encouragement to do that and it would absorb too few calories for me to even consider.
  • alli isnt weight watchers sweetie. be prepared to carry spare clothing @ all times.
  • btw, thank you nellie!

also for people who do use it, you do realize you could do the same thing cheaper w no side effects ud=sing chitiosan&vitamin c right? i know bc thats what i use BUT only 1x week on cheat night.

  • if you are following WW like you should be then why would you want or need alli? no pill has ever worked! follow the ww plan it works...
  • Don't let people put you off Iowa girl if its right for you. I wouldn't have thought there's any problem using Alli with a WW diet as its low fat anyhow. If you were following Atkins that might be different.

Sure you will lose anyway with WW followed correctly but I don't see what the problem is in taking a drug that has been clinically proven to aid weightloss alongside it. My experiences of Orlistat (the active ingredient of Alli) is that I have lost more quickly and more consistently than I have ever done before. Check out my stats. I've been on Xenical for 7 months. And I've never needed to carry a change of clothing with me!

    Good luck with it.

  • Doesn't Alli also prevent your body from absorbing the good fats, like Omega 3?
  • Yes it does prevent the good oils to be absorbed also.
  • yes it does which in effect means if you already eat lowfat and take a fat inhibitor= fat free and that has serious health consequences.

oh well im glad some people see it the way i do!
  • I also just bought Alli (again) and plan to start WW tomorrow. I don't know why people feel the need to be rude to you. Whatever works, works. So I may not be getting some Omega 3's for a while, I'd rather be thin and healthy than overweight with a few extra Omega 3's. I am hoping in conjunction with each other, it will help the weight go even just a little faster which will motivate me to stay on program.

    Good luck!
