I want a new one, a good one - not something I can pick up in the drug store.

I currently have conair one and I really like it, but it is getting time to replace it and want to treat myself to something really good so I have been reading reviews and comparing prices and features. Right now I am considering the CHI (even though a lot of people say they don't last long) and the Babyliss.

Does anyone have either of these? Used either or both? Use something else?

I usually buy my styling products at my local salon. I lost it during my move, so I can't remember the name of it. But it cost me about $120... it was ceramic and one of the best straighteners I've ever had.

The one I have is the Sally Beauty cheap-o (~$50) version of the CHI one. My hairstylist uses a CHI one when she does my hair, but it was too expensive for me. Either way, I have enjoyed the one I've got. I use it every day, and so far it's been working great.

Probably any kind that has a ceramic heating part and a dial for the temperature would be fine. I like mine alot because it is only 1" wide. It works great!

Keiko, in your avatar pic your hair looks pin straight like mine... but it's probably because you use a flat iron, eh? I've never had it done myself (because my hair is STRAIGHT) but a couple of my sisters have had the Japanese "straight perm", but had it done overseas (Bangkok) where it was considerably less expensive than the outrageous amounts some US salons charge. Just something to think about. Do you have any hairdresser friends maybe? The one my stylist uses on my hair is the Babyliss. I wouldn't dare use it myself because I have a tendency to not know when enough is enough and would probably fry my poor hair

I'm going to go buy Sally to pick up a new one tonight (one too many drops to the floor!) I always get mine from Sally for closer to $35 and they last a couple years(and I always drop them!) They have good brands that have the Tourmaline in them..which is what all the new high end ones are using now.

I've just bought a Babyliss Pro 230 from Costco and its fab. It has 3 heat settings and even on the lowest its hotter than my previous Braun.

sotypical - Hi! I am a stylist and I use a CHI. There are other great hair straighteners however my CHI has lasted me quite a bit using it in the salon on a daily basis. Amazon.com will sometimes have great deals on the CHI products! Good luck!

I'm also a stylist and I swear by my CHI. I have a Hot Tools iron and a CHI and the Hot Tools is okay if your hair is already semi-straight, but the CHI kicks it's butt.

I got mine at Target for $125.

There is also another brand that they are pushing bigtime at the place I buy my hair supplies at called GHD. Its a little more expensive than the CHI, but they claim it works even better. They have a whole line of products with it.

Products that I recommend with any straightener are the CHI products OR the Biosilk products OR the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny shampoo/conditioner and the skinny serum. The shine serums are a must-have with any of these products. CHI and Biosilk all have the shiny serums.

Seriously, though...try Target for a straightener and get a CHI or look in your local salons for the GHD. They cost more, but there is a DEFINITE difference in quality, IMO.

I have a cheapo $30 Conair one I got at CVS about 3 years ago, and it's still going strong. I don't know how much better an expensive one is supposed to work, as this one does exactly what it's supposed to do! It's got variable heat settings and ceramic plates and everything...

Well I have a Conair (Wal*Mart). And I just got a perm at the local Wal*Mart salon last weekend. I was ready for a new one and asked them about what they recommend. They actually use the ones right there at Wal*Mart...Conairs. So I replaced my Conair with a Conair. Nothing wrong with the old one except being well...old. Very old. LOL And it's been dropped more than once, believe me.

But I really like the new one too. And at around $30, you can't beat the price. It also has the variable heat and ceramic plates, 30 second heat-up. My old one didn't have the 30 second heat, so it's a new feature I like.

I like the wet2straight one, I think it's conair. I have a more expensive one that works really well but I like to straighten my hair when it's kind of damp, because I get too lazy later. Even though it's less than 30 bucks, I like it a lot.

I've heard good things about the Chi, too. My mom had the chi treatment a few times and loved it, but that's completely out of my price range, and I also didn't really like the way it worked on her hair- it naturally has good body, but it made it poker straight, and it didn't look as good as it would if she had just used a straightener. Chi hair products are also very good.

Go for a ceramic becuase not only will it straighten your hair but it'll repair it! Conair is the best!! love it!!

I have a tourmaline and I love it! my salon uses the Chi and it is great too! As for serums I use the biosilk and I love it!

I have a Chi from Amazon - it was on sale for $90-ish a few months ago. It works sooooooo much better and faster than my old Revlon one. I use Biosilk or Aquage Beyond Shine when I flat iron.
