Does the Hunger Ever Go Away???????

  • I have only been dieting again for a couple of weeks now. I am trying to follow WW on my own b/c of the cost. I chose WW b/c I have done that plan in the past and it seems to be the healthiest form of eating, but even now and in the pass I fail b/c of hunger. I am always hungry. Does it ever go away? What really curbs the hunger?

    What are you eating? You may not be eating the right foods to fill you up and keep you satisfied. Everyone's different, but I found that eating lots of protein, fiber, and whole grains does the trick. I eat protein at every meal. A little bit of fat also helps keep me full.
  • I have also found a plan that allows me to not go hungry. I count calories and spread them throughout the day as best works for me. We are all so different, so it is best to build your day around your own hunger cycles.

    As Battle said, getting enough fiber and protein are key. In fact, you should probably try and make sure each of your meals and snacks has some of each to keep you balanced. For example, in just a bit I will have my afternoon snack which will be a piece of string cheese and a small apple.

    Maybe you can give us an idea of what you are eating in a day and we can try and help with suggestions?
  • I have double checked my points to make sure that is what I am suppose to have. I ate today for example...Break: Great Gain Ceral w/ shim milk; Mid Morn Snack - Banana; Lunch: grilled chick. salad about 4 cups, 1 cup strawberries; 1 cup pineapples; Snack - deli sliced turkey w/ laughing cow cheese and 1 4 oz. yogurt. And I just ate a peanut butter granola bar w/ 1 cup skim milk b/c I am starving. Not to mention I have already drank 64 oz. of water.
  • I don't deal well with hunger, and I don't have to be hungry on my plan either. I don't know about WW and the points system, but my suggestions would be along the lines of BattleAx and Notthecheat. My suggestions for your menu would be to add a hardboiled egg along with your morning cereal. Instead of the banana, have a piece of lowfat cheese. Skip the pineapple. It's a lot of fruit, and two of them are very high in carbs/sugars. Maybe this is setting off cravings for you. Also, is it TOM? I find the week before I am hungrier than usual. Hope you can work it out, it's no fun to be hungry!

  • Thanks for the post! Maybe I do need to change it up a bit. I just want to get to a healthy weight and eat normal food. I will try and replace some of my fruit w/ some protein to see if that helps.

    I just desperately want to succeed this time. My bad eating habits is now being passed on to my daughter who is 6. She is alreay considered overweight. One would think that, that would change your whole outlook and keep you focused, but I am ashamed to say it doesn't for me. I hoping joining this website will help as well.
  • Hiya! I am on weight watchers and I am loving it so far. I do understand about the being hungry though. Not that I am hungry on this, but thats only because I finally figured out the things I couldn't eat. Heh. Fruit, while is sooo good for you, I can't eat it very often. It tends to make me hungrier then I was before I started eating. I have to eat it first and then eat the rest of my food, ie. lean proteins and veggies. It is also the same with pasta. I loooove pasta but it also makes me hungrier. I have noticed that switching to whole wheat pastas have made that go away to some extent but I only have pasta now on special occasions. There is no one-plan-for-all, because all of our bodies are different and react differently to what we put in them. I am sure you will find your balance soon!! You can do this!
  • The thing that works best for me is eating a hard boiled egg with hot sauce for breakfast. it keeps me satisfied till lunch time. I was eating mostly carbs before and I was eating a lot more during the day. Sometimes as much as 400 extra calories!
  • Maybe if you are really hungry you could try some hot tea or a hot drink that is low or doesn't have any points? I am a big decaf coffee drinker and I know when I drink warm stuff I am way full. Other than that I think increasing protein and decreasing fruit would probably be a good idea! Good luck we are all here for you.
  • Hunger is actually what I contribute my weightloss too! I learned that hunger is not the enemy when I began to feel TRUE hunger. I know when I was at my heaviest, I would graze and would eat when I thought I was hungry. After about six days into my program, I learned what true hunger was. While at the same time, I am not saying it is a good thing to get famished..just I know that I went on countless diets and never kept the weight off until I learned the practive of feeling TRUE hunger, eating until I was satisfed not stuffed and uncomfortable. It changed my life. I have faith that I will never gain the weight back.
  • Fiber and protein should help, as others have suggested. I definitely agree that you should get a bit more protein in the mornings. I don't know enough about WW (I calorie count), but trying to shift calories to times when you're more hungry may help. I tend to eat 50-60% usually of my calories in the evening meal and my late night snack. This is something that most diets tell you not to do, but I found that no matter how many small meals I had during the day, it didn't help. I would lie in bed (not sleeping) thinking about what I could go have to eat.

    My afternoon munchies have gone away since I started using that time to exercise. The weather in Georgia should be much warmer than it is here. How about you and your daughter going out and doing something together in the afternoons? It might take your mind off it.
  • I have really found myself to not be hungry at all since I am limiting the amount of food I eat… if I am peckish or my blood sugar drops to low I reach for a yoghurt or some fruit!
