Going for it

  • I saw my PCP today to talk about WLS. She's agreeable. I'm back to 329 lbs, after having lost about 35 a few years ago. I worked so hard to lose that weight, got stuck, went on vacation and never got back to the program. Then we moved across the country. I've tried all my life, except when I was packing on the pounds. The last time I was a normal size was maybe in 1 st grade, 45 years ago.

I figure I've been fat and eating junk food all my life. I'd like to know what it's like to be normal or even close to normal. When I lost that weight before, I really cleaned up my carb intake, exercised A LOT-joined a gym and everything. I felt good but got discouraged when I hit a very long plateau. I've concluded my genes are against me-I look like my nana and her daughter-same size and shape. It's like I was born to be fat. My PCP talked about the body's set point, I think she called it. I've heard about ti before. A body thinks it's comfortable at a certain size. Well, I guess my body is pretty dumb. It's pretty healthy for my age and weight, but how long will that last? Not long.

I'm pretty sure my insurance covers it-the last time I looked it did. Of course, there are hoops to jump through, but they seem reasonable-the usual stuff.
guess I'll find out for sure then sign up for some info meetings. There are several options here in Phoenix, it seems.

I'm looking into the lapband-the others seem so radical-I don't like the idea of having my gizzards cut up and attached to different places. I know people have had success with it, but it's not for me.

Well, gotta go to bed. I'll be back.
  • Glad to see you here, merryterry...you're in the right place! There are some very wonderful, caring people on this board...I think that they can be as great help to you as they have been to me!

"having my gizzards cut up" I love the way you put that! I suppose I am gonna have mine trimmed!

I wish you good luck on the beginning of this grand adventure! It hasn't been easy yet...and my surgery date isn't until Feb.!

  • welcome aboard, Terry - and there's something wonderful about making a decision. doesn't matter what it is, as long as you know it's the right thing for you to do. there are some excellent programs out in Phoenix.

    we're here for you!!!!
  • Hi, Terry! Good for you - and I can sure relate to that "hoops" thing LOL. Finally am getting there - one more nutrition class and then they set the date - yippee! It took awhile to wrap my brain around this business, but as you say, I'm really wanting to feel "normal" again for the first time in many decades. I'm so tired of feeling yucky, getting motivated, starting something, then falling off the wagon and feeling yucky again - awful to live life as a yo-yo. I think this is just the tool for me to stay the course. Good luck! These boards have been such a support for me - just to know you're not alone on your journey is sooo comforting!!
  • WoW! Another person on the loser bench!!
