  • The title says it all. Saw this in another part of the 3FC site but I think it will apply to some of us.

I've been maintaining through the holidays and plan to keep on doing that 'til Jan 1, 2008. That's when I'll go on to lose the last 5 lbs and get down to 127.

Anyone else joining the January Club?

    Dagmar ( in happydog land)
  • I'll join you, Dagmar. I really thought I'd be back on track the day after Christmas, but my cold has made me not want to diet (or exercise). I have a few more pounds than you to lose to get to goal, but I'll get there (I hope) by my birthday (3/17).
  • I'll join you guys. I managed to maintain for the holidays (so far--I have plans to visit friends for a few days over New Year's so that will probably involve eating and drinking alcohol). But as of 1/4/08 I want to get into gear and lost those last 15 lbs. I am joining a gym (getting bored with my one cardio machine and read that switching things up is important) where I will get to meet with a personal trainer at a discount.

Let's NOT be like most people and go to the gym a lot right after New Year's, then taper off by the end of the month!
  • I'm in ... I'm sooooo disgusted with myself ...
  • I'm in as well.. hoping to get back into the mid-130s in January.
  • Oh, Ilene! I feel the same!!!!

I plugged all my stats into my spreadsheet this morning. This day last year, I weighed 143 (which I wasn't happy about). This morning? 151. And did I go for my morning run? No.

I've lost a lot of motivation. Sure I can blame it on my cold (almost over it) and the weather (only 39 degrees when I got up--I'm used to running in 50 degrees), but I can only really blame it on myself.

So today I am going to formulate my plan for this week. Since I despise eating cold things when it is cold outside, lunches will be soups and diet frozen meals or diet leftovers. I must lose 1.5 pounds a week for the next 11 weeks to make my goal. I WILL DO IT.
  • No beating-ups please!
We all backslide Allison and Ilene. But that's what the group is for, to help you go on and lose weight again. And again if need be.

And eventually we all get to join SusanB in maintainers . That will be a new experience for me and I plan to make the most of it. I think I'll have to insist that all of you come with me though (you're all "family" now) so we'll all have to get busy in the new year.

One more holiday evening to go (thank goodness!!!)

    Dagmar
  • Dagmar you're brilliant!

I've been reading a book I got for Christmas and wanted to kind of mull some it over with someone and here you all are.

As are most diet books ... this one has about 100 too many pages of wierd science and opinion but I'm drawn once again to the recommended foods.

One of my favourite books 'Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle' states that -anything you do to food after picking is processing-
This book too says -whenever possible eat foods as they were created before they are changed into something people think might be better.

This isn't a bad thought to mull over for the beginning of a new year, yes?
  • I am definitely in. Allison and Ilene - I, TOO, RELATE!

I'm not sure exactly how much I have backslid because my WW scale is broken. I should probably go buy one, so I can update all tickers and be accountable.
  • Allison 1.5 / week sounds quite doable and I think I will aim for the same, are we in? I think so
  • Hi,

Count me in on this January club.
Albeit - I won't be on 100% until Jan 7th. I have ONE more Christmas celebration next w/e.
I will attempt to curb the indulgences - but I'm sure I'll cave to some.

Getting back on track with the exercise, slowly...one day at a time.
Looking forward to a thinner 2008 - and beyond.

    -Susan

    bye bye belly
  • I'm in! I did OK over Xmas - indulged, but not up by much - 1-2 pounds depending on how I jiggle the scale. I'm back to eating well now, but kind of "winging it". I will officially weigh on Jan 1 (plus change ticker, if need be), and resume calorie counting on Jan 2 (have a family thing on Jan 1, and don't want to start the January club by going over on the first official day).

I want to lose 5 more, then re-evaluate whether or not to go for that last 5. The 130 sounds nice, but we'll see how I look/feel at 135. 130 may or may not be sustainable for me with my middle-aged metabolism.
  • Separated by 5 lbs.
Janie Canuck Were you a mountie in a former life? Love your moniker (yes I'm a canuck too ).

Your starting weight and goal weight are both exactly 5 lbs. more than mine. I too have a middle-aged metabolism so I'm curious to see if I can get to/maintain 125 lbs.

    Dagmar
  • What's your plan for losing 1.5 lbs per week? Are you going to work out a certain number of times, eat a certain number of calories per day, etc.? Also, do yuou ever have an "off" day where you eat whatever?
  • Nope, I wasn't a Mountie, though my closet career dream was to be a Mountie and do the Musical Ride....

I'm from not far away - Peterborough. I was in T.O. just last Wed (the 19th, not Boxing Day!), in fact, to catch a concert...
