L Carnitine???

  • Hi everybody.. as usual I have a question 4 u.. well, first the story! Today I went out running with a friend. When she got to my house she took a pill and asked to wait 30 mins before we started jogging, of course I asked what it was and she told me itīs L Carnitine and that itīs "marvelous for fat burning and weight loss".
So I wanna know if any of u has used L Carnitine and if itīs that good. I mean, the great comments were made to her by the seller so thatīs kind of biosed info, so I was hoping to get some objetive comments!

    Tks!
  • I've taken a couple supplements that contain it. Only one had any noticeable weight loss effect, but it was such a hodge-podge of herbs that I couldn't tell you which were responsible for the effectiveness. I suspect it was the large amount of herbal stimulants - two or three sources of herbal caffeine and Ma huang (which I'm not sure is legal any more as this was called herbal ephedra).
  • I looked into this a while back because it sounded promising, but what I found wasn't so positive. The info I read said the body makes this naturally, and apparently the body can't use anymore than it needs (and makes), so supplemental l-carnitine is not used by the body and has no impact on fat oxidation.
  • Tks for your posts! I tried looking in internet but there opinions in favor and against, I think Iīll just pass!!
  • I just went through a battery of tests for my new endocrinologist. One of the tests showed a marker for the ability to burn fat for energy. My number was so low that he said my body had only a tiny capability to burn fat for energy. That means, after my body has burned all the carbs and protein I have eaten, my body will then burn my own muscle for energy. Fortunately the Pilates trainer I have been working with for the last five months has always advised I eat a little half an hour before my workout and always reminds me to eat protein as soon as I get back to my office.

My Endo, said that if your body is not producing the L-Carnitin it needs, that replacing it will increase your body's ability to burn fat. If your metabolism is normal, it's just a waste. To really know, you would have to be tested. I have been on the supplement for a couple of weeks now. I am taking a powder that I add to my protein drink every day, and it's a lot more than you could get into a few pills.
