Snowshoes?

  • I think I need/want a pair of snowshoes. We have gotten over 2 ft of snow so far and I need to get outside to walk. The sidewalks are icy where they have been plowed and Miss Dixie needs to get out too!
So I have been looking at snowshoes and really don't have a clue as to how to get a pair, all I can tell is that they go by weight.
Does anyone have any thoughts? I would love any input.

  • I love to snowshoe, it is a great workout, 'specially if you use the poles too to trudge thru the snow when you walk, you get a great all around workout.
I think mine went by my boot size when I bought them about 5 years back. Mine are the metal ones and of medium length, you don't need the super long ones in my opinion. FYI, I bought mine at Sam's club, they were a lot cheaper than buying them at a sporting store... Happy trails to you to walk upon... I am sure you will enjoy it too, very picturesque out there!
  • I had a pair that DH bought from a catalog, they were good, but a little too big for me and the bottoms were too big for my boots, they kept coming off. They work better for DH and our boys.
I got a new pink pair yesterday, also from DH that are LL Bean. They are awesome, much better for me. Make sure that what you buy works for you. If the bottoms are open and your feet aren't big enough, your boot keeps popping thru the bottom and they come off.
Mine are 25 inches and good for up to 200#, so my younger son can use them if he wants, but they are pink.
Go to a sporting goods store and check different ones out, also make sure you can easily work the bindings with cold fingers!!
