Huge Achievement! (xp)

  • Hey girls...
I haven't posted here in over a year. But a lot has happened in that time so I thought I'd post an update.

I started out at 270 before I had my gastric bypass (July 2005)
After about 15 months, I got down to 145-150 where I still am today. I have maintained this weight for over a year now. Haven't gained any back!!

I am very motivated to start working out regularly again and get in lots more protein. My ultimate goal is undetermined, but I'm aiming for 120 pounds which is 30 more pounds to lose.

It's good to be back (although I wasn't a huge poster before) and I hope to contribute a lot to the forum, now that I've been through most of the weight loss journey.

    Missy

The entire weight loss journey has had its ups and downs. For me, the key is to do everything in moderation. I have found that if I take a bite or two of the Tuna Helper I make for dinner (or whatever it may be!) I am satisfied, then I can go and eat a salad or something healthier. And I don't feel like I missed out on anything.

I limit my pasta/bread intake. I have not eaten an entire piece of bread since my surgery. I would probably be sick if I tried! I have taken a bite of my husband's sandwich, or whatever...but ONE BITE and that's it...and that is VERY rare that I'd even take a bite with bread. When I order a cheeseburger at McDonalds, I eat the meat and stuff and throw the rest away. That's just normal for me now.

I still have not taken a bite of sweets, and never will. I have learned how to substitute other things for sweets and I am just as satisfied. I make lots of sugar-free (w/splenda) desserts for the holidays and get-togethers, and most of the time people don't even notice they are SF.

I truly feel blessed that I have been able to make a TRUE lifestyle change, not just a short-term fix.

As far as exercise goes, I have been slacking lately. My preferred workout is jogging on the treadmill. I was never able to jog before my surgery, and I love that I can do it now. I also enjoy water workouts in the summer, in my own pool (not at the ymca or anything, I prefer to work out alone). I asked for a home gym from my husband for Christmas so we will see if I get my wish!

So that's about it. There is so much I could say, but I don't want to bore anyone with the details. I'm always very willing to answer anyone's questions though so look for me to be posting a lot from now on
  • Thank you so much for sharing, it just brings so much hope! I really want to make that kind of change too.

You can do it!! You just have get...and stay...committed to it. And don't be afraid to ask for support or help when you need it. That is SO important!
