Does anyone exercise here?

  • I was just curious if any of us in the 100 pound club exercises consistently. I guess I am just lazy or something. I dont mind counting the calories that much cause it works-but I havent been able to make myself exercise yet. I have a coworker who has lost 80 pounds and has kept it off for a year. I asked her if she exercizes and she said "no", she never has. From what I have read I know its good for you, it's the fountain of youth, strenthens your heart, helps prevent disease, etc.. but I just dont do it. Any comments on this??
    thanks!

  • I DO!! very aggressivley! I do cardio and weight training about 6 times a week. If you want motivation i can help!!
  • I walk 3-4 miles 5 or 6 times a week. Occasionally I will ride my exercise bike about 20 minutes and I also have some leg exercises that I do that really tone the legs and rear end. I want to start doing some stregth training as well. I think it is very important to do some sort of exercise daily not just to lose weight but to keep your muscles toned and active. It is not to bad when you are younger but when you get older if you don't keep moving those muscles will atrophy and you'll never get your mobility back. If you don't use it, you'll lose it!
  • Lorelei... like you, I typically didn't exercise in the past... and well... you can see the results. However, this time I am, and I have found that working out not only helps my heart but it helps keep me on track with my eating... because I sure as heck don't want to muck up dinner after I've already put time and effort into a workout.

Also, I saw a special report on obesity in America on 20/20 earlier this year. It was fascinating... mainly because it revealed something new to me. Of course, we all know the depressing figures on the number of those who lose weight and gain it all back. Those figures were the same as always (ugh!). However, something new was pointed out... of the people who lost weight AND kept it off there was one thing they all had in common, without exception... it wasn't the way in which they lost weight, because they all had used different weight-loss methods (indeed, the study pointed out it didn't seem to matter how they lost the weight)... nope, the common thread running through the long-term success stories was... drumroll please... regular exercise. And they said it didn't have to be an enormous amount of regular exercise... just 30 minutes, 5 or more times a week (for example, one man just walked 1 mile a day, fives times a week and still kept the weight off for more than 15 years). That was an eye opener for me. I always knew people could lose weight without exercising, but until then I didn't realize how crucial exercise could be in keeping it off.

(And you better believe, if this girl is going to lose 100 pounds, she sure as heck doesn't want to battle those same 100 pounds again.)

Anyway, this time I'm incorporating exercise and so far, so good.

  • I exercise regularly, right now I do 30-40 minutes of aerobics 5 times a week and at least 3, 20 minute toning workouts. My goal for now is to do 5 hrs of aerobics a week. For me exercise is as important, if not more important then staying perfectly OP.

  • I have two 15 minute breaks a day at work. I walk during these breaks, outside if the weather is nice and inside if it's not. This is not only good for me but it also keeps me from wanting to eat during break. You can always find some way to do some extra movement during the day.

  • You girls are so right. You have no idea how important it is in your life.

especially weight training. I do not want to push anybody into that if they do not want to but the lifting of weights will release special hormones that aerobic exercise does not. this si the gsh . it is the "youth hormone" this is the one that as we get older we have less of. it is responsible for our metabolism, health, healing, bones, and skin (yes ladies it does firm up the skin) it also makes it thicker (you know how it tends to get thinner when we age) and healthier looking. for having lost 65 lbs i will say that i do not sag except for my boobs and gut (from 4 kids and tons fo stretch marks) I have niticed that the girls hae picked up but it will be a long time to get back where they belong if they ever do. but it also helps with the bone density as well. so there is very good reason to do wome kind of weight traiing. even if you have a few dumbells at home and play. it willl help.(and please start small!!!!)
  • I do 2 x 60 minute classes per week. I really ought to be doing more, but I figured it's a start. Every little bit helps, and can be gradually built up. Start with something that doesn't push you too hard, and work on increasing it.

    Good Luck!

  • Karen you have done gerat almost 90 lbs!! WHOOO HOOOO!!!
  • thanks!!
Wow, you guys make me feel lazy!
I am going to exercise today, even if it's just an exercise tape. We have the walk aerobics tape but I have only used it a few times. Lately all I have done are leg lifts, etc.. (floor exercises). We have a ladies gym place nearby where you can pay by the week which I might look in to. No long term contracts. It might just encourage me, too.
    Thanks for the inspiration!

  • GO FOR IT you will not regret it (only if you do not use it)
