Frozen Grapes

  • Has anyone ever tried eating frozen grapes as a snack? I just went out of town for Thanksgiving and some of my family members told me about them, and they are actually really good! A little frozen snack instead of ice cream or something fattening
  • ummm...
I have heard of them but never tried them. Another good one is a frozen whipped cream (nonfat, of course) and graham cracker sandwich ..... ummmm..
  • I love frozen grapes. Plain or flavored. I think it was someone here who posted about tossing damp grapes with a package of sugar free gelatin (dry, right from the package) and tossing in a ziploc bag and freezing. I tried it and love them. They're like tiny popsicles.
  • Yum, I'll have to try that. And I know, I LOVE frozen CoolWhip... it's just like ice cream
  • I adore frozen grapes. I learned of them here at 3fc and now I freeze them by the pound, and then pull out a serving as needed.

    My dogs love them too!
  • Frozen grapes are fantastic - everyone I told about them just loved them. Helps keep the grapes longer too. They just get kinda mushy when they thaw out though...
  • Haven't tried frozen grapes (though I will now!), but I am a longtime fan of the frozen banana. If you get them when they're not too ripe and then freeze them, the banana flavor is very slight, and the creaminess just makes it taste like vanilla ice cream - but low cal, low fat, and all natural! Yum
  • ohhh that sounds good... both the banana and grapes... i might have to go pick up some grapes when i get off work
  • I love frozen grapes. my grandfather used to freeze them, so they are very special to me. LOL. Memories. But I have never heard of tossing them in sugar free gelatin. OOOHH!!! Im going to have to try that one. Now I want to go to the store and get some grapes.... And Im going to try the cool whip and graham cracker sandwich. that sounds yummy too....
  • Love frozen grapes. But honestly the jello thing sounds...not good to me. They already get sweeter just by freezing. DONT thaw them. Frozen grapes are meant to be eaten frozen! They are especially good when you have a sore throat.

Coolwhip in any form is a trigger food for me. I dont even like it and I will go crazy with it.
  • In organic chemistry and human biology classes we were taught that lowering the temperature of a food decreases the perception of taste, especially sweetness, and that's always been my experience. I have never noticed grapes getting sweeter when freezing, just the opposite in fact, which is why I generally pick the sweetest grapes for freezing. I wonder if the variety of grape would account for the difference.

The red grapes I normally buy have always been sweet enough, so I never would have thought of trying the jello either, except I bought a huge bunch of green grapes that were very sour to the point of unpleasantness. Without a little sweetening, I probably would have just thrown them away. And as much as my husband and I are moving more and more towards a whole foods diet, I still have an unexplainable weakness for artificial cherry and lime flavorings. Can't explain it, as it's not as if they remotely resemble any flavor actually found in nature, although maybe that's part of the appeal. Cherry and lime popsicles remind me of childhood and summer, I guess.
  • Frozen grapes huh? Sounds interesting, I'll have to try it. My favorite wine is ice wine (hehe).

I used to make frozen bananas... dip them in melted dark chocolate and roll them in coconut. The Kids love them!!
  • Frozen was the only way grapes were eaten in our house growing up. Of course, it was so hot most of the time that is was a welcome treat!

Canned lychees are also really good frozen. Drained of course.
  • Ooooooooo Frozen Lychees!!!! Would probably be good frozen fresh as well (and probably easier to peel!)
  • I love frozen grapes, strawberries and blueberries. I usually buy my grapes at Costco and freeze a whole bunch at once. I will definitely have to try lychees - they are one of my favorite fruits.
