Carbs are out of control what am I doing wrong

  • So I am losing weight I have been on this almost two weeks and the first week I lost 5 which is normal and so far I have lost 2 lbs for this week. My week ends on Monday. Well I have lowered my fat intake and calories and it seems to be working for me. However, when I track this all on fitday.com and you enter your food information my carbs are high. It runs 30 - 40 percent of my daily intake.

I am switching to whole grain bread and wheat items. It just seems like everything I eat is a lot of carbs. Is it possible to lower all three without cutting everything I like out of my life?

    Thanks,
    Jen

  • Are you doing a low carb diet? Because 30-40 percent is low to normal for carbs where I'm coming from. I aim for a 40/30/30 split of carbs/protein/fat percentages. I use Fitday, too. It doesn't seem like you are doing anything wrong, you've lost 7 pounds already! IMHO - 2 pounds a week is a healthy rate of loss. Given, the 5 pound week was bound to be higher because it was your first...but even so, congrats!!

What makes you say your carbs are out of control?
  • 30-40% is not out of control at all, unless you are attempting a low carb plan. Where your carbs are coming from can make a difference though - whole grains, fruits, and veggies are fine. Refined white starches like white bread, cake, cookies, etc. can give you a blood sugar spike that may screw with your appetite.

In other words, you're fine! And congratulations!
  • LOL I don't really know what made me feel like they were out of control. I think its the pie chart and I just felt they were high. Today, yes they are running high but I am having an off day. Not on purpose either.... Well, I guess I will not worry about them then unless it starts causing a problem with my weight loss.

At first my carbs were coming fom refined white starches but I am slowly getting our breads and other products changed over to whole grains etc..

    Thanks for all your comments
