Following a Heart/Stroke diet or Diabetic diet as a preventative measure???

  • I've been thinking a lot lately about my health, and have been having terrible fears of a looming possible health crisis.
My Dad died of a heart attack at 44 (I'll be 30 in Dec.) and I had an Aunt who had diabetes, and ended up dying of pancreatic cancer as a result.

I'd like to start a discussion about following those specific diets as a preventative measure. I guess I'd describe this as akin to women at high risk for breast cancer, having mastectomies in order to avoid getting the cancer.

I don't have an opinion on this...yet...and I want to know what my wonderful friends here think of this idea. Would it be safe? Does it make sense to do such a thing?

    What do you think? Suggestions?

    xoxo

  • I am personally following a heart healthy diet. I'm not doing it because I have high cholesterol or high blood pressure. I'm doing it because it is healthy and it is something workable for me.

Since heart disease is the #1 killer of women in america, I think it is a smart choice to follow a heart healthy diet. I don't know of any reason it would be unsafe.
