So absolutely confused.

  • Ok... So I had one of those wild and crazy days... Kid locked me out of my car with my keys in the ignition, and no way to get them out for hours or get in my house.



    But I laughed it off for the most part...

    Then I made the mistake of stepping on my friends digital scales...

    Now I know I kill digital watches. I know I have had problems with digital scales in the past... I usually get a wild reading. But usually no more than 10-15 lbs out.

    Thus far I have been weighing in on the same scales as I weighed in at for the last 2 years almost.

    When I stepped on the scales today they told me I am 320.4, then 328.7, then 304.5, then 321.8 lbs.

    Now... I know that there is something wild going on... And rationally I know I have lost weight or at the very least I have lost size... But right now I am sitting here shaking my head going:

    WTF!

    I mean... One saying 255 and another saying 320? Which is right? Are either right? Now I have to go out and find another scale but I don't dare mess with a bloomin digital cause they read funny...



    I mean... There is absolutely, positively, no way that I can gain 65 lbs in one week... Not even!

  • Well I would suggest using the same scale that you have been using to weigh yourself usually..that is what I have always been told "use the same scale, the same time of the day"
  • That is what I had been doing... But I figured maybe 5-10 lbs off... Not 65.
  • Cheap digital scales, or even good digital scales with a low battery are very unreliable. My first digital scale was worthless. I weighed about 310 lbs at the time, and I could get it to read just about everything EXCEPT 310. My record "low" was 123 lbs on that thing. (It would have been nice to believe in the possibiloity of losing 190 lbs overnight, but as good as I can be at denial, I just couldn't muster that extreme of wishful thinking.)

    I have two digital scales now that are extremely reliable, though one does weigh me a little heavier than the other (only about 1 - 2 lbs though). One is a Health o meter, and one is a Homemedics.

    Tanita and Health o meter consistently get great reviews for reliability.
  • I actually might have favoured a 65 lb loss... On top of my 52. That could have been fun.

  • Sometimes digital scales can vary their reading based on where you position your feet on the scale. Mine will vary 3-4 lbs. that way.
  • Forget all those scales.

    Select yourself one well recommended one, and stick with it! ONLY use that one scale and it'll give you a much better reading. Even if it's a few pounds off in either direction, you'll know how much you've lost.
  • It really matters where you put the scale. I have a 12" x 12" tile floor. I can't just set it anywhere on the floor. I have to center it in ONE of the tiles. If I just set it anywhere it will read wrong. Plus I have to stand centered on the scale. If you have an uneven floor (wood, carpet,tile) the reading won't be right.

    I know digitals are a pain but I love to see even the tenths of pounds coming off.
  • Also - don't get to obssesed with numbers because your best scale is you. We are pretty intuitive about our state if we want to admit it or not. If you are feeling good and going down in size that's all you really need to know.
  • I think for the sake of curiosity I am going to try a couple of others but stick with the one I have used all along.

    I mean... I KNOW my computer chair fits better then when I was 307. Yes... I said my computer chair.
  • I bought a Tanita Large Capacity Scale because somebody on here suggested it. It is great!!! The only time it acts up is if it needs a new battery. It was $63 though...but I was scared to buy a cheap one for this very reason. Maybe you should invest into a new one.....it was my birthday present to myself.
  • I gotta point out... This one isn't mine. It is a friends. It was a step on for the sake of curiosity thing.

    Truthfully I prefer the big, traditional ones that you find in Dr's offices, etc. That is what the one I normally weigh in on.

    But if I do buy one then I will get a good one.
  • I understand COMPLETELY!!! The digital scale thing is EXACTLY why I don't own one! It drove me crazy. It never weighed me the same. I got rid of it.
    Now I weigh in at a health clinic once a week. That way, I know the scale is accurate and I'm not tempted to look every few minutes (which is what I would do!!).

  • The digital scales say I weigh something like 265. Hey I'll take it but I know I don't weigh 265 & my jeans know it too. So no, it's not just you.
