FitDay - Any Suggestions?

  • Hello,
I just downloaded the more elaborate version of the FitDay program. Does any users have any ideas/suggestions of how to utilize this program, so I can get the most out of it? I'm going to be playing around with it for a while and probably find things out myself, but Im just curious if anyone has any hints.
    Thanks!
  • I've only used the free version of fitday. But 3fc does seem to have a larger list of food calorie counts, also on fitday you have to put in each food item individually, so if you're making something that has a lot of ingredients it can be a real pain. I use the *********** receipe calculator for things that contain more than 1 ingredient (such as meatloaf or stuffed peppers or whatever) It'll give you the nutritional counts for the entire receipe. Then enter that information on fitday as a custom food on fitday. Hope that helps a little.
  • Hey! I use the downloaded version. You can add foods to it by entering information from the foods' Nutrition Panel to the Food Explorer. And, if you figure out the calories and nutrients of ingredients in a recipe, and add them all up, you can add the whole recipe. That's a little harder, but it can be done, and then it's easy after that.

I like the Weight Goal setup, where you enter how much you want to lose and by what date, and FitDay will tell you what you need to do in terms of calories. It also warns you if you're trying to lose too fast and your calories have to be too low.

Once you set up a Weight Goal, it's all a matter of entering everything you eat in the Food Log and the exercise you do in the Activity Log. Of course, right at the beginning fill out the information in My Profile and My Metabolism--that's the basis for the calculations. I set mine at sedentary and add any exercise I do to the Activities Log.

When you're maintaining, you just put the goal weight the same as the start weight, and then you can see what your calorie intake and calorie burn needs to be.

Hope this helps. I downloaded my version a few years ago, so it may be different.

    Jay
  • OOPS! Sorry, guess I wasn't allowed to say that. Anyway it's on another site. Don't know how to get the name of the site to you sorry. I guess you could look on the diet forum on craigs list, I know it's posted there.
  • I was wondering if the free version is any different than the downloaded version, other than the fact it is directly on your computer if downloaded.

I have been stewing it over.

Also can you download the information that you already put into the online version into your downloaded version??
  • I use the online version of fitday. I have thought about downloading the desktop version just because I wouldn't have to log onto the internet everytime I want to enter my food. But, I also enter my food alot when I'm at work so I couldn't do that if it were on my desktop.

Trastull, I don't think you can download your information from the online version to the desktop version. At least that's what I've heard.

I do like fitday. It really helps me stay on track with my calories and realize just how much (or little) I'm eating.
  • Like Jay, I really like the weight goal section.
You cannot "convert" from one version to the other. I started online and two weeks later I bought the downloaded version. I had to go enter everything for those two weeks on my computer.
I love the additional reports in the pc version. You can do reports on exercise, foods, weight, there are a LOT of them.
I love the overview page and the calendar. Once you get going, the calendar will sum and average your calories, and fat, carb and protein for the week - very, very helpful.

I just enter everything when I get home from work. And - since I have a computer at work, if I eat something I think I might forget, I send myself a quick email with my foods for the day to that point.

I honestly think that adding Fitday is one of the most important things I have done this time around that has kept me on track and successful!
