My little 3 y/o old granddaughter keeps asking me how many sleeps until Santa comes and I have to tell her there are too many to count right now. But, for me it is four more sleeps. I'm to have my open RNY Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. I'm excited. I have to have the open because of past surgeries and hernias, so I've decided that Dr. Custer can only give me a four inch incision and can't go below the hanging flab. Well, that is what I want anyway! LOL! I've started to make a list of things that my DH will be able to cook for himself and cleaning out things around here that I won't be able to eat any longer and I know that he won't. I've got my summer clothes all bagged up and the minute my doctor comes out and says everything went fine, DH is to make a trip to Goodwill and dump them. The surgery center is around 70 miles away. My husband has 10 months of sick leave saved up after 35 years of service, so he will be able to be with me the four days of hospital stay and seven days after that, plus doctor is requesting that he be able to drive me to my two week and six week appt. My SIL is ready and willing to help. She had to help me with my last surgery and because of picking up pseudomonas at the hospital, she had to help me with dressing changes for six months. I pray to God that nothing like this happens again. I have my protein supplements. So I think I'm ready to go.

I am soo excited for you! Make sure you call me if you can or send me an email to let me know all is well. I feel like i am getting close to joining you. I only have one more month left with the doctor before we start all the submission of paper work!!! I will be thinking of you and you are in our prayers. All my love

PS How did the family take it?

I haven't told anyone except SIL, my immediate family and Donna (she is my medical power of attorney). They will all be on need to know after I have it done. Family is the most opinionated people and biased people that I know, so when and if the time comes will let them in on what is going on. Don't want any negativity right at this moment or I told you so's or let me tell you. LOL! Last few weeks have been hectic and I haven't had time to really think about the surgery. Only thing that really makes me nervous is that, they will get in there and finds something amiss and I won't be able to have the surgery. I'm crossing my finger, eyes, toes and legs! Will be very glad to have the hernias tacked up and out of the way for a while. I'm looking about two years down the road to have belly flap, permanent hernia repairs and A&P repair. I have to go on clear liquids on Monday and NPO after midnight. They reminded me to bring the "devil" c-pap machine with me. If that thing didn't cost so dang much, I'd throw it out the window on the way home from the surgery! JMO!! How is your traveling schedule? Will your work be gracious about letting you off work without problems? Love you!

Yes, As soon as I knew this was the route I wanted to take I talked to my boss about it. They were very supportive about it. You really will get to that cpap machine!!!!

Hopefully my DD will be able to post after the surgery. DH asked today at lunch if I was nervous and I told him "honestly no". Well, he is and said if you think the risk is too big than maybe you better not do it. I know he is nervous and that really is the only time that he has expressed any doubt about everything. I think that things are really starting to sink in that my life is really going to be different. I stoled a french fry from him and said well, this is the last time that I'll ever be eating one of these, said the same thing about some other foods, and he was kind of questioning about all that I will be giving up. I told him I wasn't really giving up a thing and I would be gaining tons and tons of things. He enjoys my cooking and all the different things that I make. I'm excited about just learning to cook new things and a different way. Maybe that has him scared also! I told him that we wouldn't be having white potatoes, white rice, white bread, white pancakes, etc. I think that has him worried a bit. I really think that he is scared if I can't twist and bend for a while he'll have to wipe my big rear end!!! LOL! All of you thank you for your words of encouragement and well wishes. Oh, I e-mailed Amy (the girl who got my original surgery date) that I was having surgery on Tuesday and she has an appt. at the clinic Wednesday and is going to come and see me. I'm excited because she and I have emailed for months and can't wait to see how well the WLS has turned out for her. The funniest thing is we have probably crossed each other's path for years and we live 45 minutes apart. I warned her that I look like Sophia Loren with makeup, but the day after surgery and no makeup, I'd probably look more like Ma Kettle!!!

Got just a few days left nancy and im still here with you.. im doing great and not a complication at all, never even a dump. did what i was told and made sure i drank my water and chewed my ice chips.. Its been 14 days and i dont think anyone would even notice ive had it done. Still tire easily but working up to doing more exercise everyday,somedays i just want to sleep adn rest !!
Dont mean to make it sound like a piece of cake but its not bad and our reward will be well worth it... ive lost 25 pre surgery 31 post surgery... still have 250 to go.. So you hurry back and we will do this together , along with walking our dogs and the rest of you can join in...... a big hug goes your way... linda

Hi all this is nanj's daughter, just letting you all know that she did very, very well, the doctor said she was a champ !!!! Yeah! What a relief! She went in about 10:45am and after surgery and recovery got back to her room at 2:45pm. She was pretty alert. When I was getting ready to leave they were discussing her getting up and walking, not sure that I could watch that! (ouch). The nurses have been great and were surprised at how well she was doing. Right now she is scheduled to get out sometime Friday. I haven't heard from my dad yet this morning on how she did overnight. I am sooo proud of her. I am looking forward to being there for her through all of this. Talk to you soon, I'll try to give updates as I get them.
