Vegan for a Weekend

  • Vegan for a Weekend -- it almost rhymes!

I want to share that although it is only Wednesday, I am excited about the upcoming weekend. I will be going on a women's retreat at Yosemite. All meals are being provided and there is a vegan option. There is also a vegetarian option, and I am used to eating vegetarian. I am not used to vegan food preparation. I think I manage to get some dairy product in almost every day. But for this weekend, hey, what could be an easier way to go vegan than to have the food prep be up to someone else! So even though Friday-Sunday is not a long time, I am hoping that in addition to the other parts of this retreat (yoga, meditation, instruction, music), that I will learn something about what I need, and don't need, to eat. Thanks for listening!
  • What fun! Good for you for treating yourself to this retreat (and the new experience of a vegan weekend!).
  • That retreat sounds awesome! Enjoy.

I've been considering doing a 30-day vegan trial. I eat mostly vegan now, but I'm interested to see what the difference would be in pushing that to 100%. It would sure be a lot easier if someone else were preparing all the meals, but that's always the case no matter how you eat.
  • Hey spinymouse, how was your weekend?

Thanks for asking, Suzanne! The weekend was fine - except for the breakfasts. Oh, but that is another thread!
There was nothing for a breakfast rebel to eat in the morning. Grapes. I ate some grapes.
Yoga and meditation sessions were very good.
The vegan food choices for lunch and dinner were fine. Meals were definitely not the main focus of the weekend. Which is fine with me!
I can't say I had all that wholesome and healthy of a time though, because there was beer available. And of course I took advantage of that!
But I feel like I came away with a few glimmers of enlightenment. You never know with these sorts of things what you are getting into. This was overall, a positive experience and I am glad I went.
