question for Mediterranean followers

  • Do you count calories or use full/hunger as cues? Do you limit your fruit? I have a bad carboholic monster inside me that LOVES breads and pastas and I try to not eat them so that I don't binge but sometimes I think that is why I binge, because I stifle it so much that I kind of lose control and eat way more than I should when I do. Do you find that eating some every day helps control the carb cravings? I usually gain a ton of weight with carbs but I'm still thinking this diet is so much healthier than many others. I've been low carbing for a while but I'm stuck for 2 or 3 months at my current weight. One doctor wants me on a very strict paleo type diet and my other doc wants me on a fruits and vegetables diet. I'm in search of good health and weight loss here. Any suggestions, websites, experience you have is much appreciated.

  • Hi there! I have a similar thing and have been sort of experimenting around.

    What is a "paleo" diet?

Basically on this diet you don't eat white flour or sugar. So you can eat brown rice and oatmeal and beans stuff like that. So it's not "low carb" but "bad carb" free.

Actually with true "whole food" type carbs I'm pretty controlled, but I experimented with regular bread and pasta because my family was having it, and dang if it didn't set me off.

The way you limit quantities here is to divide your plate, and have your dinner plate divided between protein, vegies and whole grains (it has 25% of the plate slated for fruit but I usually eat it for snacks or desserts -- I never have fruit on my dinner plate!

So I'm using a modified version of this, like the Zone....half the plate salad or veggies, the remaining 1/2 plate even (1/4 protein and 1/4 whole grains.)

Than's kind of an easy way to do it....
