  • Good morning! It's hard to believe that Fall has arrived! Our temps are not even close to Fall! Today we're supposed to hit into the upper 80's! Phew! Later this week it'll be more seasonal with temps in the low 70's.

Had a pretty busy weekend--went to a high school football game, party on Saturday and Sunday did a little bit of running around. Last evening I canned tomatoes (I love home canned tomatoes in the winter for chili!)

I'm struggling with my eating--I do well at meals and then later on I'm getting into all sorts of stuff! The weird part is that I usually don't look for sweets and lately I've been doing that! I'm trying to refocus. The one good thing is that I've been getting my walking in so that's something positive.

Lisa Did you have a good weekend? Any golfing?

Pam: I'm actually looking forward to NOT have TOM issues...can't come soon enough! This last time my TOM only lasted 3 days...it's so strange. I'm just hoping that I can enjoy my vacation in October without cramps/upset stomach!

Susan: Hope all is well with you!
  • Melissa, Thanks for the getting the thread up and running. Your temps are about the same as ours. We have had much humidity lately which is terrible. Had a goodweekend; DH had to work, so I took a Pilates class, had a golf lesson, and putzed around the house. There is a big yard sale coming up and I am going around the house looking for things to sell. I sure have enough; it's just hard for me to part with some things. I'm so darn sentimental.

I hear you about the eating habits. The weekend was bad. I took DH to get an ice cream sundae. Then I bought some corn chips (red light food). Ugh!

Yes, no more TOM is great--take it from me. I'm officially post-menopausal. I love it. I don't even think about it anymore.
  • Hi Ladies,

It's hot and humid here, not fall like at all. I think things are suppose to cool off this weekend. The weekend was OK all I managed to do was finish painting the upstairs bathroom. Ugh what a job but thankfully it is done. Never made it to the state fair although we plan on going Friday morning before we head out to the Cape. I'm so looking forward to that nice little getaway!

Melissa I'm so frustrated with my weight. I've been eating well and exercising 4 times a week for over a month and I've managed to gain 3 lbs!! I really don't understand what I'm doing wrong..I never eat more than 1,500 calories a day and have been doing both cardio and weigh training...how can I gain? Unfortunately, with TOM now coming less than 20 days apart I always feel bloated. I'm anxious to see the gyn. next month to see what he recommends. My TOM usually lasts only 3 days but I've been having it twice a month for the past 6 months!

Lisa I'm having some sentimental moments myself trying to clean out our house before we sell it next spring. Everything triggers memories...most of them nice

Hi to Susan hope all is well. Hope you can check in soon!

Well ladies time to head to the gym for my step aerobic class. I'm going to continue working out and eating well and hopefully I'll see a nice number on the scale soon. Talk to you later!
  • Pam, That is puzzling re: the gain. I've read that when one starts exercising a lot, that at first, there is a gain because more muscle mass is happening. Then it's supposed to taper and then you see a weight loss. Don't give up. I'm not sure I remember, but why are you selling your home? Is it to move to a smaller place?
  • Good morning! Another dreary day here in the northeast. It really makes for a long day! The temps are still pretty humid even though the actual temperature is 70 it's pretty sticky outside. The cold front is supposed to be going through but so far it hasn't come through. The weekend is looking more "fall-like" which will be perfect for football games, etc.

Lisa: I really need to go through stuff and purge. I may do that with my clothes over the weekend. I need to put some of my summer stuff away and start to transition into my fall clothes. It's hard with the temps being the way they are.

Susan: Boy do I understand your frustration with exercise and no weight loss. Last year I was getting up early to do my WATP tapes and after a couple of weeks of non-weight loss I chucked it. I didn't like getting up early and didn't feel any benefit other than being more tired I don't doubt that the hormonal problems are also a part of the problem. I know my weight has been staying within the same 2# since May and it's so frustrating! I've had two TOM's in a month and it's tiring! I'll be curious to hear what your dr tells you when you go. We just have to hang in there and eventually the weight will come off, it's just frustrating that it takes so darn long to come off when it goes on so quickly!

    Susan: How's the job going?

[b]Lori:[b] Hope you're enjoying your vacation! I can't wait for mine!

15 days until vacation...can you tell I'm excited??!! At my WI yesterday I was up again...there's no rhyme or reason. I told my leader I have to be okay with it until things get straightened out. I'm hoping between my thyroid and the TOM issues that once they're straightened out that my weight will follow. It's hard to stay positive some days. I do know I don't want to have to re-lose the weight I've lost!
  • Hi ladies,

Yeah my mini vacation starts tomorrow and the weather is suppose to be beautiful at the Cape! We'll be there through Monday, I'm so happy to be getting away for a little while . Now I just need to catch up on some "office" work and hopefully get a "workout" in this afternoon.
I have a question for all of you .... what time do you generally go to bed at night and how many hours of sleep do you need to feel your best?? It seems like lately I'm needing more sleep. I usually am in bed by 10:00 and up at 6:00 am, but the past few nights I find myself nodding off by 9:00 and feel much more energized in the morning by getting that extra hour. It just seems like 9 hours of sleep is a lot??

Lisa DH and I decided that once Lauren is finished high school this year we should consider moving a little closer to Springfield, which is where we both work. We currently live in a small town 20 miles away. Also, our five bedroom house is now a little large. My DS is living in Boston and Lauren will most likely be away at college next fall so were thinking it might be time to downsize a bit.

Melissa I can tell you're as excited about vacation as I am. When you're in Portland check out a restaurant that is on a ship, I think the name is DiMartino's. I recall the food being wonderful. I love the Kennebunk area, my sister and I spent many summers vacationing there with our families. I am definitely not a morning workout person either, I've been going either at lunch time or after work. So how are the newlyweds doing??

Well ladies time to tackle some projects I've been trying to avoid. I'll talk to you all next Tuesday!
  • Hi everybody. It seems like ages since I've posted; actually, it has been!

The job is going well, and the days are over so quickly. I really need to get into the habit of getting some computer time in during the evening because there just is no time for it at work.

My weight? Not good. I am back into habits that I broke seven years ago. I don't know what it will take for me to get serious about weight loss again. To make matter worse, I am having some muscle issues and haven't been able to run for the past 4 weeks. Am going to physio and he assures me that I should be back at it in no time. Meanwhile, my running buddies are taking part in a relay on Saturday, Run for the Cure on Sunday and preparing for a half marathon on Prince Edward Island in mid-October. I am green with envy.

I will try to check in more consistently.

    Susan
  • I wrote this post on Thursday and it disappeared??? Not sure what happened. Pam, As far as sleep goes, I'm in bed between 9 and 10 each night. I get up at 5:30 a.m. You say 10 hours of sleep, but are you really sleeping? It takes me a while to fall asleep--sometimes an hour. DH falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow. I hope you enjoy your vacation to the Cape--very pretty area. DH and I were there in 1994 (long ago now that I think about it).

Melissa, Maine sounds nice. DH and I are leaning toward going there for our vacation next summer. I've been told Acadia National Park is wonderful.

Susan, Good hearing from you and I'm glad your job is going well. What sort of muscle issue are you having? That's too bad. Are you getting massages as well? They may help.

My eating habits have also gone south. I'm snacking and just eating too much. What's up with that?
