What's the first meeting like?

  • FINALLY, I can afford to join Weight Watchers. And there's actually a meeting in my little town, so I don't have to drive 1/2 hour for meetings, yippee!!

So, can anyone tell me what the first meeting is like? It's a community meeting (I'm not sure what that means, exactly. Maybe someone could explain it to me?) and I was just wondering what happens there?

I'm SO excited and can't wait to start!!

    Thanks for any responses!
  • Jess - First off CONGRATS for joining!! You will be happy you did!!

The classes - well at mine you go in and get weighed first. If you are new you have to sign up and THEN get weighed. Then you sit in the class and wait for it to begin. Depending on how crowded it is.

The leader has a topic that she discusses and sometimes she gives out stickers for people who lost weight, etc.

It just depends on the leader really - but that is it. And if its your first time the leader should go over program at the end of the class for the "newbies". That is where she explains it in more detail.

That is the jist of it - people participate (if you want to) and give good suggestions, support, motivation, etc. Its very worthwhile.

I hope your leader is good - that makes it ever more fun! Mine is the BEST!!

    Good luck and have fun!

    Tara
  • Introducing Myself...
Hi, I just wanted to take a second to introduce myself, since I didn't when I posted this question. I've posted to the 3FC boards before and have also sort of dabbled with Weight Watchers--my mom used to attend meetings and passed the info on to me. I managed to lose 20 lbs the first time I did it, but haven't really been able to get back into things for one reason or another. But, my apartment has no food in it (I'll go grocery shopping after my meeting tonight), I don't have to cook for anyone but me, and I don't have to make myself workout anymore--I actually like going to the gym now. So, I'm 23, I'm about 5'7" and weigh somewhere close to 200 lbs. I'm not sure what a realistic goal for me is, I'm guess someplace around 150. Fifty lbs sounds like a lot to lose, so I think I'll try to break it down into smalled increments--does anyone else do it that way? So, that's a little bit about me--in case you were wondering.
  • Jess,

Congrats on joining! I think you will find the meetings motivational. It really does help when people participate and give thier ideas. So hopefully your meeting will be like that!

I set small goals for my self. For me it was easier than looking at the overall weight I had to lose. Once I made that goal I set another. I also rewarded myself when I did make my small goals.

Good luck to you, and keep us posted!
