Wow! This book gives some of the greatest visual tools I have ever seen! I have teens who are watching me and trying to learn healthful habits and this book blew them away too.
The basic premise is that you should make better choices. Here are some examples:
This fell under "chocolate binge" (we've all had them, right?)
You can have -
1 pack sugar free choc caramels
1 pack fructose sweetened choc covered raisins
3 reduced fat choc wafers
for a grand total of 1,140 cals.
All the sugar free and reduced made it sound like a decent choice...
OR
you can have -
12 oz choc frozen yogurt
low cal choc shake
3 frozen fudge bars
mug of low cal hot cocoa
2 choc tootsie pops
3 hersheys kisses
for a grand total of 595!!!!!!!!!! did you slap your forehead yet or is it just me?
One more....
2 slices of cheese pizza
900 calories
OR
1.5 cups minestrone
1 slice cheese pizza
salad with artichoke hearts and tomatoes
600 calories
dang.dang.dang.
You've just got to see the pics in this book. They really have shifted my thinking. I haven't been eating terribly. I adhere to So. Beach darn near religiously. But this book has really given me a kick I've needed.
Just thought I'd share.
Thanks for the info, I think I may want to pick this book up!
I love this book! So many great ideas in here, for every sort of craving/taste you want.
I've borrowed this one from the library. Great visuals on how to eat more food for less calories. The Volumetrics eating plan cookbook also uses these principles (loosely). It also has some great photos and recipe makeovers.
I love these kind of things. I still feel like I HAVE to have enough volume to feel satisfied.
I have this one. It's definitely eye opening!
Which one is it as there are a few of the Picture Perfect weight loss books?
- Dr. Shapiro's Picture Perfect Weight Loss: The Visual Program for Permanent Weight Loss
- Dr. Shapiro's Picture Perfect Weight Loss Shopper's Guide : Supermarket Choices for Permanent Weight Loss
- Dr. Shapiro's Picture Perfect Weight Loss Cookbook: More Than 150 Delicious Recipes for Permanent Weight Loss
- Dr. Shapiro's Picture Perfect Weight Loss 30 Day Plan
Jen - the first book in your list is the "Main" book.
The Shoppers Guide is a list of foods that are high in volume but low in calories, laying out for you exactly what types of food will give you more satiety with low calorie totals. The cookbook has some great recipes in it that utilize the principles in the main book. I've never seen the formal "30 day plan" book from him.
One of my favorite things about these books - he (like me) isn't about portion control of all foods - just portion control of the higher calorie ones. I personally only feel satisfied with a fair amount of food on my plate, and his perspective is basically "the correct portion size is the size that makes you satisfied"...you just pick a lower cal option to get that bigger volume of food.
