Can't sleep so I thought I would start the thread for today
Today is a big day here in Tarpon Springs. It is the Greek Epithany Day. People come from all over the world to see the young Greek boys dive for a cross. There will be thousands of people here in this small town
The day starts with a church service where a high up priest from Greece does the service. Then they have a procession where they walk from church to bayou. Once they get to water all the young men jump into the water and swim to small boats anchored in a semi circle. Then the priest throws a white cross into the water and all the boys jump in to retreve it. When the lucky boy surfaces with it a young woman that has especially been chosen as the dove carrier
releases a white dove. The boy brings cross to priest and he recieves a special blessing and he gets to keep the cross. The young man is suppose to have good things happen to him all year. I don't know if they still do it or not. But when I was young he also went door to door to the Greek families and they would give him money. Many years ago they had a jeweled cross that they threw but one year it was lost when thrown into water. So now they have a special wooden one made by the same Greek man for years.
It is suppose to be very rainy today. Those boys will really be meserable sitting in those boats wet,cold and being rained on.
I haven't gone in years. I always went as a kid because since I was half Greek I got out of school. I took the kids when I first moved back home many many years ago and have not gone since.
Afterwards they celebrate all day long. There will be special festivaties with lots of Greek food and Greek dancers.

I am doing good with my eating. I am just trying to eat less and move more. The move more is the hardest but I am trying.

I have not been posting lately, but hope to get back on track. I have been taking time to read others posts. And have enjoyed them.

One post made me stop and think. We really do get a lot of support here. I don't hear from a lot of my chapter members through the week, but when I need a lift, I can always come to this special place and get support (and encouragement and motivation and counciling and news of friends and a lot more). There are days when we all need a boost and all we have to do is log on here!Thanks to you all

I have not had a good food day. Not too much, just not what I need to eat. I think I have a bug of some sort. Nothing sounds good except tea and toast.

Eleni, I enjoyed hearing about the Greek Epithany Day. I lived in Greece of a couple of years and enjoyed it very much.

I don't remember if I told of my chapter's plans to lose 100 pounds in 100 days. Sounds like a good motivator.

I didn't sleep well last night and if I don't get up and get to moving I may have to take a nap!

Have any of you read the book Inspired to Lose? It is a good book! I am planning to use one the stories as a program next Thursday.
