Motivation- My New Goal

  • Ok...so i am new on here...haven't quite set everything up yet, but I'll get it all up and going... I do, however, want to get my routine up and going first. So, I need your help. Let me explain..without boring you...and if I do, I apologize!
I am 23 (as of Monday..WOOHOO!) I weigh 240lbs and am 5'4. I started working at the gym in February and by April I had dropped from 246 to 216...I was proud of myself and doing great. I, for SOME UNGODKNOWN reason, stopped...(if someone can tell me why..I'd appreciate it!) I want to get back in my routine. I use my work schedule as my excuse....(I work 2nd shift..I get off at 11pm...wait up until the fiance gets off work at 2am...then usually fall asleep at 5ish- crazy i know, but 5am to me to a normal 9-5 person's 9-10pm....((confused yet))...) I want to be able to wake up and walk in the morning then hit the gym, get ready and go to work but I have no motivation. This is where you come in....any ideas or help you can give me on motivation, I'd love it. I had a good streak there for a while...then I just stopped. I loved the compliments I received just from the few pounds I had lost....but it seems nothing is motivating...I am not depressed...but I am so serious about losing weight physically, but mentally I am shot! HELP!

Hey there I'm new too. Why don't you use the time that you have waiting until your fiancee comes home? I always wait until mine goes to work (aft shift)

If this helps at all the reason why I stopped going to the gym and gave up on my efforts before was because I got too comfortable in my life, didn't realize that I had let myself go.
  • I get that way sometime....too comfortable...his deployment is coming up and my motivation now is for him to come home after 12 months and see a whole new, lean and HOT fiance! HAHA!
Good luck to you!!! We'll have to check back in on each other!
  • You can do it!
I'm new here too. I'll eventually figure out the photo thing and whatnot, since the kids are running about I don't have the time at the moment.

For motivation... think about your wedding pictures. Those babys are going to be around for a LONG time. Think about your dream wedding dress. Think about your fiance's face when he comes home from deployment and to have his jaw drop at the new you would be...amazing.

Just concentrate on losing 1 pound. Just concentrate on working out for 10 minutes at a time. I'm chasing 3 kids under 3; and I can't fathom a block of an hour for myself when I'm alone with them. I just concentrate on 5-10 minutes of doing something... anything... even dancing around like a hooligan, just to get some exercise in there.

Hang in there! You can do this!

I do very much the same thing. I try for the 1-2 pounds, then the next 1-2 etc. I have 3 kids too, 7,6,and 2. So I don't have alot of time to workout. With my 2 year old, I can't do a whole work out video. So I walk with her in the stroller after my older two go to school and I do mini-workouts through out the day. I do a little dumbells, or floor work while watching TV, etc.

    Good Luck!
  • Try to do something that involves pretty much no prep time. Going to the gym means dragging yourself out of bed, changing, getting in your car, etc...Just THINKING about this usually makes me reset my alarm and go right back to sleep.

But if can do something in your own house, such as using workout DVDs, I think it will help with your motivation, at least in the beginning stages of "getting back on track." If you are able to burn a few hundred calories while exercising in your living room, I'm sure you'll get up and do it.

Hang in there, and best of luck!
  • I sooooo know what you mean!!!
I just became a member today.

I also feel like getting prepared to workout feels hard. I try to get errands done and while I am out and about, might as well stop at the gym and run quickly through the weights and hop on to an eliptical machine for a minimum of 20 minutes. Anything I do over that is above and beyond so if I feel up to more I feel like an excercise goddess!

I have also begun to get my family involved through planning active activities. It is the beginning of week three so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Consistancy is my issue...
