Every time I feel full/satisfied...

  • ...I become afraid that I'm going to gain all my weight back.

Does anyone else have this fear?
  • Many have this fear. There's a thread like this running on another forum also.

I think it's because in the past, being full meant that we had overeaten. But remember, the capacity to overeat drops as we stay on program. The "full receptors" in the stomach actually become more normal again.

That's when it helps to track the calories, points, whatever it is, so that you can assure yourself that you didn't really go off the deep end... assuming that that's the case, of course.

These days, I'm full after I eat less than half of most restaurant meals--unless it's something like a WW meal at Applebees. That never used to be the case. I could eat everything and put a dessert on there, too. I'm just as glad that's no longer true!

So yes, you may feel like you have been "bad" if you feel full or satisfied--but just keep within your portions/cals and you can get used to feeling full without guilt!

  • I usually have that, then i just think to myself "you cant be putting on weight beacuse you are not overeating" but i still feel a little guilty
  • For me, years of crash dieting made me equate hunger with success. When I first started this journey, I had serious doubts that I could actually lose a pound if I wasnt feeling hunger. Now, I'm 26 pounds lighter and have never been hungry while on-plan. Life is good!
  • I have the same thing.. Every time I feel full, I feel disgusting, huge, and like a monster. Even though I KNOW that I didn't over eat..
  • Oh yes, most definitely. I associate feeling empty with feeling thin and successful, so feeling full equals "getting fatter"..............urgh

  • I'm so glad i found this thread because i'm feeling like this right now and i know for a fact i'm staying on track! I think that it's because i'm so used to feeling guilty when i have this 'full' feeling. But thanks for the reasurrance everyone
  • Yeah , me too, leah - I had my usual veggie sub from Subway with every single vegetable on it... and it was DELICIOUS, though because it tasted so good, I keep guilt tripping myself. That's another complex I have: if something tastes really good, it MUST be bad for me, even if it's... not! For instance, I was eating Korean Kimchi the other day and thought "this must be so bad for me... IT TASTES GOOD!" Of course, Kimchi is actually really healthy, but my mind is just a little messed up

The only weight loss method I've ever stuck to in the past happens to be one that involves starvation, so I think it';s just mentally engrained in me to think that full = fat... especially because once I stopped starving, I just couldn't stop EATING!

GirlyGirlSebas, you've never been hungry while on plan? That's amazing. I'm hungry often enough, but I'd be hungry unless I ate something like 2,000-2,500 calories a day (judging from past experiences), so I'm just glad that I'm not starved.
