Maybe my scale is broken???

  • I have been walking almost everyday for two weeks. My doc increased my Glucophage (Metformin) to three pills a night. I also have been watching my carbs - not perfectly but SO much better than before - and have been using splenda and sugar free everything. I had two slip ups where I ate some candy corn of my son's and some Sour Patch Kids at the movie theatre - we are talking 5 or 6, not the whole bag! So after two weeks of NO fast food (this was huge for me to give up), healthy eating, walking, increased metformin. NOT ONE POUND.
    NOT ONE POUND is gone according to the scale!!!!!!!!!
    I am so upset. How I am I supposed to stay motivated when nothing I do to lose weight ever seems to make a difference? I cannot give up again, my life depends on it. I am going to increase my healthy eating and I am going to keep walking and I am going to stop eating at night (something I am still working on). but don you think ONE pound could come off? Dont you think the scale should have moved at all?
  • hmmm, you and may be related....I go through the same frustrations, I work my butt off at the gym, do hard cardio (burn 4-500 cal) watch everything I put in my mouth and it took me 4 months to lose 6 lbs....and of course those 6 lbs. could come back after one evening out to dinner! I'm pending a doctrs visit, so I don't have meds or tests done....i'm just unable to make the scale move like normal people these days.

    a trick I use regarding night snacking is not telling myself *no*, it's telling myself *wait 30 mins*...by that time I either fall asleep or forget I wanted something....
  • I am right there with you guys. I have been doing the same thing and am extremely frustrated! I wasn't diagnosed with PCOS but with IR however they seem to be the same thing. I even gave up Diet Coke which is a miracle for me because the sodium I was having was making my feet swell and now I still swell if I have a lot of sodium and it is annoying because I feel like I shouldn't have this problem. After all I gave up my Diet Coke! It seems like any sodium makes a difference.
    I can drop 1 pound and gain 2 for no reason. I just can't seem to get it off and I have been working out daily, drinking water and following the low carb/no sugar. I guess it helps knowing that we are not alone. I was so stressed about it that I made another appointment with the dr. and he told me I am doing the right thing...just keep going. Don't know if this helps but that is my story.

  • maybe you want to look at the supplement i tryed from HSN, it's called Circulation and Vein support? I have been using it for about 2.5 weeks and my ankles haven't swelled since then...even with 3 bloody Marys.

    sometimes i just want to throw the scale out the window, i'm so sick of agonizing...but don't give up yet, just perserver.

    what do you do to work out? wts? target cardio? what helps me get through cardio is my new "friend" the Ipod shuffle, it's teenytiny, clips to my shirt and helps me get going faster to hopefully burn more calories and boost my mood i hope. good luck.
  • I hear ya. Sometimes it seems as if the stars need to be aligned properly for us to lose weight!

    Give the metformin time to work. I assume your doctor will bring you back in at some point to test your insulin levels to make sure that it IS working. You may not be at the right level for you...me personally, I started at 500 mg and was taken up to 2000 mg over the course of a few months. I didn't see any weight loss until I was put on 2000 mg, although in the meantime, everyone complimented me on losing weight because of what the exercise did to my shape.

    Also, celebrate the small things. You have been keeping up with the exercise and the eating...things to be proud of! Take your measurements. You might decrease in size, get toned from the exercise but not yet see movement on the scale (like me.) Third, check your numbers. How many calories per day were you eating before? How many are you eating now? How hard are you exercising...light stroll for 20 minutes...or powerwalk for 60? It takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose a pound in a week, which works out to approximately 500 per day between exercising and eating right. For me, it can take 45-60 minutes of walking (but I'm slow) to burn 300 calories.


    Hang in there...you're off to a good start.
  • Hardests has a point... you may not have reached your optimal dosage yet. HOpefully you will see some progress soon on the scale but I highly encourage you to take your measurements if you haven't already. You may be losing inches even if the scale isn't showing it. Are you noticing anything else like your clothes being loser, being able to do things a bit easier lately like walking up the stairs? Anything thing that points to progress but is not scale related?

    Battling PCOS is hard.. focusing only on the scale can make it a more difficult journey. Try and look for any non scale victories you notice and celebrate those.

  • I too have PCOS and I have been on WW for over a year, I have lost 15 lbs, as much as 19 but still have not hit my 10%. I am ready to quit. I don't have medication for the PCOS but any help would be appreciated!
