The first thing I did was buy a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (no, I am NOT on Atkins '72) and I read the book from cover to cover. Many people who embark on Atkins do not ever read the book...they go by the Atkins website (which, since Dr. Atkins death, has changed a great deal)...or, they go by hearsay from others who are uneducated or mis-educated about the plan. Many have the false conception Atkins consists mainly of consuming lbs of meat, bacon & butter everyday. It does NOT! The rules of Inducation clearly state "12-15 of your 20 carbs for the day,need to be coming from veggies & salad". IF someone wanting to try Atkins approaches & continues the plan correctly...it works!! I lost close to 100 lbs in a little over a year
And while I am by no means an expert, I have approached this from day 1 as a total LIFESTYLE change...not a diet! When I read the book, the one thing that jumped out at me & stuck with me was & is..."Eat nothing that is not on the acceptable foods list...and that means absolutely nothing...Your "just this one taste won't huirt" rationalization is the kiss of failure". This is key!
Being 100 lbs thinner & being able to go into a store and put on a size 8/10 is an awesome feeling after spending the majority of your life overweight. This is my way of eating for the rest of my life and if Dr. Atkins were here today, I'd give him a big hug and thank him for giving me my life back!!!
