Someone brought binge food to work!

  • OK this is where the rubber meets the road, this is where I get to practice some of the things I have learned from OA.
Someone brought 3 different kinds of cookies to work and I cannot stop thinking about them. I am doing the self talk (argument) yes,no, yes,no, drink some water, do something else, don't think about them.
I should be my own Case Study because this is insane, what is wrong with me?
Whew, feeling better... thanks for listening.

PS how do I put the smile faces into my Post?
  • Hey Bumps!
(smiles = colon then curved brackets or wink with a semicolon...) So it looks like a smile on it's side....like you'd do in your e-mail.

I hope the Bingefoods aren't close to your desk. I'd hate that too... on the other hand, I make my hubby take my binge foods to work with him so they aren't near me and his co-workers can enjoy them! Hmmm...I wonder if it bothers anyone there?

I'm already thinking about Christmas and hoping I don't get much chocolate...argh.
  • Hey there-

Binge food at work is a common disruption to our serenity. Some ideas that I have heard to deal with it:
-Don't go in the room where it is.
-Keep OA literature at your desk and read it when your mind goes to the food.
-Pray for the willingness and the ability to be abstinent today.
-Call your sponsor or someone else in OA.
-Write down what happens when you eat those foods.

    Hope that helps.
  • Mabela - don't get me started on the chocolates for Christmas. Anyone who has seen me in oh, 4 years, knows that I don't need any chocolates. Most of my friends and family can do without them as well, if you know what I mean. Last year, I got 2 pounds of chocolate from an aunt and a box of chocolate covered cookies from a cousin. I re-wrapped them and gave the cookies to the aunt and the chocolates to the cousin. That'll show 'em.

Bumps - good for you for resisting. We have a designated area for these "treats" at work so anyone wanting something can check that area and I can avoid it like the plague.

Oh wow, thanks for letting me vent.
  • I used to work with a woman who was about 110 pounds and very fit. She received a few boxes of chocolates at Christmas from some clients. At the end of the day - I guess before she had the urge - she opend evey box and put them on plates for the rest of us. By the end of the next day they were gone. I guess that's why she's 110 pounds!
  • Well...I MADE IT, I did not have one cookie. Marny you are right on. I read a few pages from my For Today book and my thoughts became calm. I am so thankful for everyone here. When I got home from work I read all your responses and laughed and laughed,.
Now I know what to do the next time
