Hi, new here & hope it's okay to jump in!

  • Hi,

I'm 39 so barely eligible for this club but when I checked out the 40s+ I didn't think I belonged there just yet. I have two small children 2 & 4 so they keep me young, I think.

Anyway, I've been dieting since I was 10 yrs old but never truly been fat till NOW! I'm 5'3 and was 125-135 till I hit 30 (and got married). Then my weight crept up to about 155-160.

Recently I just got tired of the whole dieting/weight preoccupation thing and discovered the fat acceptance movement. It did sound like a really good idea--love yourself as you are and get on to more meaningful things in life. But I thought it meant I would have to learn to accept myself as I was at 160 lbs. Unfortunately once I gave up any kind of monitoring of my food intake my weight shot up to 185 in about 2 months!

I was horrified when I finally stepped on the scale and even thought I might be pregnant. Well I wasn't pregnant, just fat! And now the weight is coming off very slowly. I've just cut back the last couple of weeks and upped my exercise, I thought since my weight was so much higher than normally that it would start to come off really quickly but nooooooooooo such luck!

This morning my weight was 181.5 :/ I'm frustrated and scared. I really don't want to be this big! My goal is 135. I plan to do no formal dieting (as they've never worked for me before) and just cutting down on what I normally eat as well as maybe trying to pick lighter foods that I like. For now I'm working on no snacking, and exercising at least 3X/wk.

I know I will do it, but I just didn't realize how hard it was going to be. I definitely could use some support! Glad I found this place.

Btw, does anyone know how I can get one of those cool little weight tickers?

    Thanks, Linda
  • Hi Linda, I'll be 39 next week, and there's a couple that have hit the 4-0 mark, but we've been here soo long, it's home.

You can get one of those tickers by going into your "User CP", found at the beginning of that purple bar up top. I think you go under "Edit Signature".

  • Welcome Linda! I just turned 39 in April and love the support that this group gives. Your story sounds a whole lot like mine... I've tried diets in the past and have been successful. However, the weight comes back again ~ only more! So, like you, I decided, no more diets. Exercise is key!! I'm more conscious of what is going into my mouth and I get some form of exercise in every day. The weight is coming off, naturally, not as fast I'd like but this time I really do want it to "stick" and stop yo-yoing. Best of luck to you!!!
  • Welcome!!
I am 39 too! I also have a 2 year old (and a 12 year old too). I have always been a little overweight to very overweight but I can still understand your situation. We are here for you! Check in and join in as often as you can. We have threads for logging our exercise as well as mini goals. Make a small goal for yourself to achieve for Labor Day and join that thread too. My only advice is to eat loads of fruits and veggies. They fill you up not out! Any low cal high fiber, high protein thing will do too-like Fiber One bars-love those!
    good luck to you!

  • Thanks for the welcome!
Thanks for the warm welcome. I still can't believe I let myself get to this point, but with a lot of hard work and all this great support I know I'll find my way back somehow.

  • I am new also. (My first post.)
    Hi Linda,

I am new to this site, also. (And have been dieting as long as I can remember.) I am 35 and have always been "chunky". I put on the most weight during my first pregnacy, about 75 pounds. YIKES!!! Just when I started to drop a bit, I found that a was expecting again. After 3 beautiful children, I have stayed around the 200 pound area for 10 years now.

I am not sure exactly how the site works, but I am hoping to make some friends and find some support to find my way back to healthy, w/o beating myself up over it.

Good luck with achieving your goals.

  • I'll be 39 in a couple of months.
Linda, we are the same hight but I have quite a few lbs. on you. It slipped up on me too. I was 138 when I got pregnant (4 yrs ago) and was over 200 when I checked in for delivery. Just stay focsued and it will come off. Best of luck to you.
