Feel Faint

  • I'm on Day 4 of Phase I and I'm kind of feeling a little faint this afternoon. I went to stand up after bending over and my hearing became muffled and I felt pretty dizzy. Has this ever happened to anyone?

    Here's what I ate today
    B-2 scrambled eggs
    2 slices of canadian bacon
about 10 cherry tomatoes and a glass of milk
    S-cheese stick
    L- Hamburger, lettuce, tomatoes
    S-SF Jello
    D-SB meal

    I haven't had dessert yet.
  • I wanted to add that I spent about 2.5 hrs outside with the kids this afternoon, too. Gardening and playing. I plan on returning to my usual gym routine tomorrow of 40 mins TM and 40 mins arc trainer. Could my Blood Sugar Level be low?
  • My guess would be your bs may have been low. You might need to add more to your daily intake. Is this the first day this has happened? It could be your activity level being higher.

BTW where in northern NY are you? I'm in central NY... Liverpool
  • I would suggest adding a cup of yogurt (for your dessert maybe) and definitely adding 1/3-1/2 cup of beans during the day will help stabilize the blood sugars. Make sure you are getting your 4 1/2 cups of veggies in.

Sounds like you had a combo of heat, blood sugars, and the typical day 3 or 4 which your body kinda freaks from being deprived of refined sugars/carbs.
  • I just ate some raisin bread and feel better now. It is the first time its happened, fortunately.

    I'm near Watertown, in Dexter.

Thanks for the tips. Do you eat more carbs when you know your activity level is going to be high?
  • For phase 1 the recommended way to get some extra carbs in order to keep blood sugar from dropping too low is through dairy and/or beans. So try adding some milk or yogurt, beans, hummus, etc.
  • Are you drinking enough water? I wonder if dehydration could cause some lightheadedness?

    Kara
  • I drink about a gallon of water a day, honestly. I get headaches if I get dehydrated.

Thanks for the tips. I'll have to buy some yogurt and beans. What can I do with hummus.

    <-----Never had hummus before.
  • Oh, hummus...yum!!! My kids LOVE hummus. You'll probably find it in the section with the refridgerated cheeses. I don't know why.

I dip carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, sweet pepper sticks, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, cauliflower...really anything you'd dip into veggie dip. You can also use pita chips, but I would go overboard with those so I stay away from them. I believe a serving of hummus is about two tablespoons, so I usually premeasure that amount into a custard cup and go to town with my fresh veggies.

You could also use hummus as a sub for mayo on sandwiches. It's especially good in pita bread stuffed with fresh, crunchy vegetables like cucumber!

  • Thanks Kara! I think you talked me into buying hummus!

I reread the part in the SBD book about exercising. They actually recommend eating LF yogurt or oatmeal before a sustained workout and white bread or potatoes afterwards. I had some oat meal this morning before going to the gym and I didn't feel faint at all. So, we'll see how this goes.
