What Makes You Eat More Food?

  • What makes YOU eat more food?

I think I mainly make my bad food choices (nice way of saying 'stuffing my face') when I'm bored.

this article seems to suggest that most of the reasons we eat more food is mainly habit.

I definitely agree with their comments regarding alcohol and the comment regarding heat is interesting.
  • I'm probably the same as you, Sarah. I can overeat in any number of situations but i do most of the damage whilst I'm alone and in front of the TV. Kind of like I "deserve" it which is mad. I know that I eat far less when I'm warm and I nearly always lose weight on a beach holiday for this reason.
  • Boredom, anger(like to crunch things!)
  • Cos I'm a piggy
  • I eat more when I'm tired

I eat if I've already feel I've overeaten - cos I've "blown it" for the day

I eat more when I'm bored at home

I eat more to spite DH (wth???) or if I'm angry with him or if he suggests I shouldn't eat something...

yeah mainly boredom, tiredness and anger that I can't do anything about
  • Boredom, mainly. (In terms of more "unneeded" food, rather than the extra food I need to eat when I'm training more).
  • Yep . . . I saw that article, too . . . very true information.

Boredom and habit are biggies for me, too . . . but I think my biggest problem is (as mentioned by 2frustrated), being tired . . . guess I figure I can stay awake a little longer if I eat something. In reality all it does is make me even more tired and then I'm going to bed on an even fuller stomach . . . dumb.
  • I think the general concensus is boredom! I completely agree though.

Its almost as if, I dont know how to act if I'm not eating. I sit down to watch TV and I just feel a giant desire to nibble on things.
  • I do eat emotionally but there are two factors that make controlling my intake easier.

Exercise - If I exercise I don't get so hungry.

Junk food - If I avoid junk food I do better as the chemicals in junk food make us want to eat more. Probably put in on purpose to maximise profit.
