bagel and engish muffin question

  • I bought some WW english muffins and bagels. the english muffin is like 100 calories and bagel I think 15o calories for the entire thing. so do I need to eat just half for a starch or can I eat the entire thing for a starch?

I am hoping the entire thing, yummy with a egg at breakfast.
  • It depends on who you ask... And also what else is in the muffins/bagels....

LAWL isn't dependant on counting calories.. You also have to consider fat content, sodium, carbs and fiber.

The Thomas 100 cal muffins, according to the on-line dietician, can count as 1 starch for the whole thing.. But at my COD, they were totally against that...

If you count them as 1S, you can only eat them no more than a couple times a week...
  • On the new version of the plan (referred to as Gold2),
    1/2 of a 1 ounce bagel equals 1 starch...that's a mighty small bagel.
Dan's right on the English muffin - 1 light English muffin equals 1 starch, but with a regular english muffin, one half of the muffin equals 1 starch. All these breads should have at least 3g of fiber in them.

My older/regular gold book says 1/2 a small Lenders Bagel equals one starch
    1 oz bagel = 1 starch; 1/2 english muffin equals 1 starch.

And you should not have both starches at the same meal, you should only eat one.
  • If you post the nutritionals for the bagels, one of us with LA Online access will send it into the Dietician.

I'm on the thinking that 1/2 a Bagel would be one starch, but you never know what the Dietcian would say.
  • Someone just inquired about starches a few days ago in this thread, have a peek for some info:

  • FYI to those of you who have a Meijer in your town...Thomas English Muffins are Buy 2 get 2 Free...
  • I am on the Gold plan, and under Bagel other it is 2 oz. or 1/2. I weigh the bagel because they all vary and look for one that is whole grain, lo-cal. Good Luck.
