Implants - 10 yr warranty?

  • Hi all:

very interesting topic--I pray when I lose all I wont need all this surgery but I think I will at least need a "boob fluff" like someone mentioned. The thing that disturbs me about it is the 10 yr warranty--do you have to have surgery every 10 years to replace them? That seems like a big investment. What happens if they arent replaced?

  • Hi Sno! I hope you don't mind but I moved your question out into its own thread in the forum. It's a good question and I didn't want it to get lost at the end of the FAQ thread because it's so long.

You should search online. I used to hear that breast implants should be replaced every 10 years or so. I believe they degrade eventually. The web site above talks about the fact that the manufacturer of your breast implant will replace the actual implant for life and if they have a problem within the first 10 years, then the company will reimburse you some of the surgical costs.

Personally, I plan to buy silicone bra implants if I have to
  • Implants usually need to be replaced every 10-20 years depending. And yes, that does require more surgery and more costs.
Implants are not guaranteed for a lifetime and they can break and/or wear out and just get old.

But---- I wouldn't worry about ANY of this at all until you get to goal.
You can re-assess your situation then. Just focus on weight loss for now!! One thing at a time!

well thanks so much for the responses so far. Since I have been doing well I am working towards imagining my future, both good and bad, when I lose weight. That helps me to stay on track.

So my next question is--do the implants feel funny? I mean do they feel heavy and swing around a lot? Just curious.

    Sno
  • They sure shouldn't "swing around" at all!!

Most are (and should) be implanted partially beneath your pectoral muscle and never "move around." Also depending on how much breast tissue one has already, you might not even feel them from the outside.

I can feel mine from the outside on the bottom, but that is because I have little breast tissue and thin skin. It is also my body and so I am more sensitve about what I feel in it. I can kinda feel them when I sleep on my tummy, it is like sleeping on two big soft balls in your boobs. Weird, but not unpleasant. And they have never felt heavy. I was preparing myself to have a heavy sensation on my chest after surgery (4mos ago) but, that was never the case.

Like any adjustments in life, you get used to it.
  • Quote: I can't tell I have them. Mine are on the small side (240cc) so maybe that makes a difference.
My, my, Meg. You make me feel like Pam Anderson. Mine have almost twice as many ccs!!!

I let my surgeon make the call. He said he would just fill out the stretched skin. And that, my friend is what was required to fill me out! So, no sagging skin there anymore!
