Diabetes and medication

  • I am new to this forum. I am 46 y/o. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 5 yrs ago. Initially I made dietary changes and there was no change the next year. My activity in limited because I have severe arthritis in my knees. But, I found if the pool was warm I could get in the pool and run for like 1/2 hr without any pain. I feel this made a major change and dropped my AG1 numbers to below, non diabetic level. Mind you before the number was diabetic level well in control.

I will be the first one to admit that I haven't been as good with my diet as I could have been and I did have the occassional regular soda. But, this time my lab work came back ovre the limit and needing medication.

I am and RN so I understand the importance of medication but I just hate it. My DR started me on glucophage. I have been on it for 2 wks now without much of a change in my numbers. This is somewhat dissappointing for me but the other issue bothering me is since starting my medication I feel like I am always hungry. Sometimes within an hr after having eaten. Has any one else experienced this and if so how did you deal with it?

The good thing about the med is that my neuropathy in my feet seems to be resolving. Now if I can just get this weight off like I have promised myself for years I might feel better on a day to day basis. I have considered lap band surgery but really hate the idea of surgery. But I know it is a tool and maybe like medication I need the assist of this tool to get me where I need to be.

Anyway I sit here tired, frustrated and a hormonal mess. Hopefully I can pick up some advice and tips from you guys.

    Thanks

It's not an easy disease and as you well know it is definitely a progressive disease. You just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other and heading down the long winding road to better health and fitness. Together we can all keep this monster in control.
