  • HI Frenchie - I doknow of a French market in France where an English company sell their cheese including Cheddar but I cannot remember whereabouts it is. Maybe the English embassey in your town will know?? They may also know where to get the other stuff you mention. Don't you like Orangina??? Or the one my brother had which has a rude name (something like schitz I think). Ok I know these are fizzy ones and you are talking about squash. Do they not have cordial over there?
  • they dont do cordial here, but you can buy "sirop" which is really syrupy sugary liquid to dilute and its not the same coz its SOOOOOOOOOO sweet.
  • Oh I know what you mean - we put them in cocktails!

What about citron presse? That is less sweet.
  • Do you have a Carrefour near you or another Hypermarket? Normally you can find some British (and other countries) cheese and other things at the big hypermarkets.
  • i live in germany and am really lucky as we are allowed to use the british shops on the bases - you can get the basic british stuff like bacon, cheese etc.

    where abouts are you?

    regards

    tracy
  • Hello, I live in Belgium and so understand your cravings. We are lucky as just outside Brussels there is a fantastic english supermarket, which we go to when we are desperate. However we always ask guests when they come over to bring sugar free squash and tea bags as these are things that we use loads. Dependent on where you are in France perhaps a trip to Belgium is not out of the question so you can visit Stonemanor (check it out on the web).

BTW does anyone else find it difficult here in mainland europe without the help of sugar free items ?? Squash being one of the biggest needs, also for the kids as sugar sirop is the norm and seems crazy!!
  • Wow! i had a nosey at their website - they do seem to have most things an ex-pat would desire! Looks like they have 2 Belgian and 1 Dutch place. Cool.
  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, these sites arent so good for the diet!
thanks for the links, ill be doing a supermarket sweep sometime soon im sure!
i'm in the north of france in a big town and there is a carrefour and several other hypermarkets but they dont sell anything english! which is bizarre as there must be other english people round here... i have seen cheddar on sale before though and it was orange, not right at all!
starbrite, i just went to belgium in the school holidays actually! (bruges)
  • Funny isn't it how the only cheddar that is produced outside uk is bright orange??? Perhaps its an indication of how bad cheese is for you.... I will never forget being told that when fat is eliminated from your body it is bright orange............
  • I find it very odd; we can easily get English cheddar here in NL (in Arnhem even!), why not in France???

Starbrite, I'm almost certain I've been to the shop outside Brussels; I used to do a lot of "expat" shopping a few years ago and made one trip through Belgium to the shops there!
  • Quote: I will never forget being told that when fat is eliminated from your body it is bright orange............
    lovely! who told you that?!
  • When I frist started this phase of the weightloss journey O consulted a professor of endocrinology. I began taking Xenical and I vividly remember her warning me what the consequences would be if I had a high fat meal, and her pointing to the bright orange chairs in her office telling me that I neededto be aware that fat was this colour!!! Stuck with me for ages that one....

Amazing that there are others of you who have been to humble Belgium and visited the supermarket. Wow I wish I had a financial involvement in that one
