I've been having problems with my shoulder so I went to a physio. I thought it was a bicep problem (as that's where it hurts) only to be told it was a rotator cuff injury! I play softball so rotator cuff injury (thankfully NOT a tear at this point) is BAD NEWS. I've had to take another rep season off (last year was back injury) because of injury. *sobs*
I think my new mid range goal is to have lost 30kg by October (when my 'regular' comp starts) so I can go back and stun everyone. I'll also be a MUCH better player than I have lost the weight (I played state league at my heaviet, so with the weight off the sky's the limit!)
Renny-- I did the same thing playing softball a few weeks ago-- hurt like ****! Even hurt to run! Take care of it--if it tears the surgery is awful (my dad had it) and the recovery time is forever. good luck !!
I had a rotator cuff strain last year. You need to make sure that ANY cardio you do does not cause bouncing! This will improve healing time dramatically...bouncing the joint (such as in running) will strain the injury and it will take longer to heal than it might otherwise. Others on the board gave me the advice to go with a stationary bike for cardio...it is completely bounce free and still gets the heartrate up.
I slept in a sling to prevent the joint from moving while I was sleeping. Make sure you're taking some kind of anti-inflammatory, too....inflammation just makes the injury get worse and worse.
