Unintentional "slights"

  • The "sense of humor" thread on the support forum made me think of those unintentional slights. You know when someone says something that COULD be seen as an insult but they didnt mean it that way.

My favorite - because I get this at least once a week - comes about because I am olive complected, brown hair, brown eyes and my kids both have big blue eyes and my dd is a blondie.

"Your kids are so beautiful"...pause..."They must take after their dad?"

What ones have you recieved...or said.
  • My sister would always say "your legs really don't have any hail damage for as big as they are".
  • i don't personally have one, but this thread did remind me of one of my old co-workers. As if working in a call center wasn't hard enough, and if you ever had you know that you get into the habit of saying things automatically like "have a nice day" or "you too" if someone says that to you at the end of a conversation...
Well my friend had a generally unpleasant caller and even though she was telling him the right information he just wasn't having it. She thought she had finally gotten through to him and at the end of the conversation he said "F*** you!" and before she could think about it she said "You too sir" LMAO

most of the people i know don't even try to hide their rude remarks, they just let them fly. there is no doubt when you are being insulted or ribbed in my house.
  • I recently ran into an old friend from high school and we were gossiping about everyone we knew. She made a comment about someone turning into hippies, then she looked at me and touched my arm and said "no offense".

  • I went into a Victoria's Secret store last week. When the gal asked if she could help me ... I said I was kind of lost and need to find something that fit. She said "This is all the really sexy stuff up here. You'll want to go to that room at the back."
  • hahaha. difference between before weight loss and after - i went in there the other day and they pretended not to see me.

that happens a lot to me.
  • While in Florida with my dh, kids and in-laws I bought a shirt. When we got back to the hotel that night I pulled it out of the bag and held it up to me so everyone could see it. My father-in-law looked at me and said, "Are you sure that will fit you?" BTW - my father-in-law is pushing 350lbs (at least). My mother-in-law all but smacked him and then he started to back peddle. He said he meant that because I am large chested he thought it might not fit up top.
