OT: for cell phone owners

  • Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00
to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to. Most
of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this
situation even more of a problem.

When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial 1 (800) FREE
411, or 1 (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all.
  • Thanks for the info...i had heard there was such a thing, but didn't know the number. Very useful!
  • I have used this before. It does work well, but you have to listen to some recorded advertisements, so if I'm in a hurry for a number, I just spend the buck and dial 411 But if in no rush, it does work and it IS free
  • I'm not sure, but I think they only charge you extra if you are CONNECTED to that number after you request the number. Either that or you're charged after more than a few calls. DD got a charge on her phone once--and she says she uses it a lot, but this one time, she said yes when they said do you want to be connected to the number. If you can write down the number or remember it, I don't think you'll be charged.

Maybe it depends on your state or area regulations or on your phone service provider. I know I always get that 411 charge even when I'm not directly connected through them, and I only use the service maybe once a month, if that.
  • I have never used the 411 but it's good to know. Thanks!
