Frozen meals

  • Anyone eat these alot? I have been and it really has helped me with protion control!
  • They're easy and convenient and as you say great for portion control.

They're not so great for sodium, which may or may not matter to you, or for taste, ditto.
  • To me I find I can get more food for the same or less points if I eat something other than an over processed, less than nutritious frozen meal. I only use them on occasion or if I have an emergency such as forgetting my lunch.

Also many times it is hard to get in your 8 Healthy Guidelines (oils and dairy and protein) if you eat a lot of them.
  • We eat them a couple of times a week. I'm studying for exams, so they help when I just can't be bothered to cook.

Portion control is our weakness as well! I was gobsmacked when I realised what a portion of pasta should actually be! :P
  • I do a lot of what I call, over cooking ,and frezze some for later, that way I know what's in them. And they cost under half the price of those in the shops.

  • I try to do what Mary does too. I do have them in the house for when I need a quick meal and I'm starved and to take along to lunch on busy days but I prefer the home cooked stuff myself as it tends to be more filling and stretches farther.
  • I eat them for lunch at work. They're quick and fast and I like them. I used to eat them alot when I first started for the portion control. Now that I know portions a little bit better, I don't eat them as often, but I still have days where I don't feel like cooking and will have them for both lunch and dinner. They work well for me. I especially like the Lean Cuisine paninis. They're my favorites!
  • I ate them daily for a while when I was in my losing weight phase. They really did help me get a sense of what normal portions were like, and I got used to eating meals and not feeling overfull afterwards. I quit eating frozen meals last July when I started coming to this site. I started paying attention to what was in my food, and the diet frozen meals that I was eating didn't seem like the healthiest options anymore. However, I did learn a lot from them, and did lose weight.
  • I use these too for the Quick easies, cant contemplate cooking times and I am starving. But I enhance them. Because when I am starving there is NO portion control.

Whenever I purchase one I look for a lil box of veggie or veggie mix ( you know those 8.5 ouncer's) that would compliment it so I can mix the two. I have found that brocolli and cauliflower go great with any and all pasta's. ( ravioli, fetticini, spaghetti ) Green beans goes great with the gravy ones. ( pot roast's, medallion's, turkey ) Peppers and onions mixtures... Mexican of course! There are the tiny boxes of stir fry type veggies for chinese or asian meals. And my beloved spinach will go with anything!

I have found I am losing my weight not by taking things away but by ADDING things. Adding more water. Adding more fruits and veggies. Adding more exercise. All these additions are adding up to a mighty fine me!
  • I use the frozen meals as fill ins on days when I am pressed for time. I watch the sodium content, I will not buy one that has more than 675mg in it. I also make a salad to go with it and extra veggies for dinner. If it's a fill-in lunch at my desk at work, I add fruit. My fave is WW chicken mirabella, low sodium, lots of chicken, veggies and pasta. Yummy!

BTW, I'm Nicki. I've been posting in the 100lbs. Support group. I am following WW from home. The meetings in my area are on bad nights for me. I'd love to see more activity in the WW groups.
