Actos+Met

  • HI all
I usually post in the PCOS forum.

I am wondering if anyone is taking or has taken the combo pill Actos+Met. If so, good--bad--ugly? Any thoughts or experiences?

    Thanks
  • I take both Actos and Metformin . . . but NOT in a combination pill; they are two separate items for me . . . Actos can cause liver problems and requires that regular blood tests be done to ensure liver function remains normal . . . about the only side effects I've heard of connected to Metformin are possibly gas and/or a little runny tummy syndrome both f which usually subside after a few weeks or so.
  • I have taken both Actos and the brandname Metformin - glucophage. (I can't take the generic metformin because of bad side effects.) At a low dosage Actos does wonders for lowering blood sugar in combo with metformin. I had no side effects. However, on higher doses it can cause swelling ankles and water retention. You should be closely monitored by your doc.
  • Thanks

I have been building up the courage to start it. I took one dose but got the standard side effects from the met and right now I can't deal with it. Bad I know. I just can't deal with that right now.

I am taking it to reduce my insulin levels. I am insulin resistant but not diabetic yet so hopefully it will work on the insulin--If I can make myself take it.
  • Try taking half the prescribed dose of Metformin and if that works out 'tummy-wise' slowly add back some more . . . rest assured that your body will get used to it given time . . . but, of course, you do have to actually take the mediction for that to happen . . .
