    Check out the directions to get to London...hopefully the link is legal...

    Go to http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d.
    Put in New York as your starting location and London as the destination and click on "Get Directions".

    Actually, it may not work for everyone. The destination didn't come up when I clicked the link. But because of the rest of the thread, I knew you were discussing London, so I went directly to Google maps and ran a map from CA to London, England and saw what you were talking about. But clicking the link didn't give me any map or directions. It gave me a blank outline of the USA.
