When you're down?

  • What do you do when you're having a down day? Maybe you're bloated, maybe the scale hasn't budged lately, maybe somebody made a remark....

    What do you do?

I moisturize. Or paint my nails or something along those lines. Can't change my weight this very moment, but I can make something else about myself look better instantly!
I also drink some nice cold water. It calms me down and I know it'll help the bloating!
  • I listen to music. It completely changes my mood. My current fave 'you can do it' song is Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked.

I also enjoy pampering myself (on the cheap- can't afford mani/pedi's) with things like bubble baths, highlighting my hair, self-tanner (a tan makes you look thinner/healthier, too!). Sometimes I buy some trash mags like Us or OK and numb my brain a little.
  • Great Thread!
When I'm down I go get busy and do something constructive. I clean the bathtub or pull weeds. I grumble to myself which really seems to help as well!

When I'm down I sometimes go get some more sleep! I try deperately to get at least 6 hours of sleep a night but find that often I'm back to my old habits of 3 or 4 hours, and that can get me feeling down due to stress and sleep deprivation - a BAD combo when I am also trying to lose this weight!

When I'm down I put on music and DANCE! Lately I've been getting into HipHopAbs with Shaun T. He's SOOOO happy and funny that I end up dancing and LAUGHING because I'm having so much fun.

When I'm down I pray. I think about all the people in the world that have a life that is SOOOO much harder than MY life. This, of course then makes me sad and I cry for awhile. My cry really helps, and I always feel better afterwards.

When I am down and the weather isn't 25 degrees like it is today, I go out in my yard and lay down in the grass, looking up at the sky. I close my eyes and try to count all the different sounds that I can hear. Being outside ALWAYS makes me feel better!

  • I'm kind of having a down moment right now.. thought I was doing so well, till I saw a picture. Pretty interested in yall's responses.
  • A long, relaxing warm-hot bath does the trick for me... soothes away pretty much all worries. Well, maybe except raisin fingers & toes

That's number one on my list Cheryl. I also meditate.

    I exercise.
    Listen to music and sing.
Write a looooooong rant in my blog.
Watch a funny movie, or a sad one if I need a good cry.
  • Hey!
    I meditate too! Love it.

    This one's pretty good...

    Ooohhh man, it's amazing.

eightbitgirl: pictures are the devil. And glimpses of yourself in a mirror or window as you pass by...haha, the lighting in my bedroom is really flattering, but the lighting in my bathroom is NOT.

I like to take naps too. Never seem to be able to get enough sleep...I usually average around 6 hours, and I really need 8 to fully be myself.
  • i take my dog for a walk or go ride my horse.

Oh, I forgot about that one! Equine therapy is major in my book. I hope my horse gets a little therapeutic effect from me losing some weight and not having to lug my big butt around!
  • When I am having a down day I put my music on FULL BORE. I play it as loud as I can and I sing, well if you can call it that, as loud as I want with the music. I also dance around the house, can't dance for peanuts but when nobody is around I can dance to my hearts content and calm down.

Other than that I love to sit on the back verandah and watch the birds, ants, cat etc anything that is in and around the back yard. I love to just sit and watch nature.

  • Apparently, like yesterday, I eat 2590 calories!! Boooooo!!

Mostly, I try to go for a walk, or even have a nap if it is REALLY bad.

    Ah well, another day!

  • Go for a long walk with my bf; it makes good venting time (we are both good at playing counsellor in these situations), brings us closer together and gets us exercise.
