Just another intro post...

  • Hi all. I'm Jen and I came here while looking for recipes for South Beach and decided it would probably be a good idea to stay - you know what they say about people with support groups doing better with their goals.

I started SB last week and it hasn't been as hard as I was afraid it would be. I am feeling a bit like I'm in a Monty Python sketch - only with eggs instead of spam - in the morning. But the drop's been fantastic; somewhere between five and eight pounds already (I forget to wear the same things when I weigh in, and it doesn't help that my scale tares out at 3# instead of zero.) My mother's been on a medically-supervised program for a few months now, and her current regimen is something that resembles Phase 1 SB, so we can share recipes and go out together, which has been great.

I gained 40# as an undergrad, which is what going to a school rated in the top ten for dining every year will do to you. The food in grad school was much worse and I only added about eight. Now I'm trying to finish my graduate thesis, which stalled last year, and my goal is that as I lose weight, it better gain some!

I just moved to a city and I love it; it's much more aggravating to drive and try to park, than walk. I can walk home from one of my jobs! There's also a park, with some pretty demanding rocky trails, within walking distance of my apartment. Additionally, I did a bunch of weight lifting in high school and a little in a study I was in last year, and I'm trying to figure out how to add that in.
  • Hi Jen - WELCOME!!

Glad to see you here - you are absolutely right: this place is VERY supportive!!

Sounds like you are doing soooo well - congrats on the fantastic weight loss already!! Woohoo! Great that you'll be working on it with your mum, too, so you have double the support!

Keep checking in and let us know how you get on with SB!

    Good luck!

  • Hi Jen!

    Welcome!

Glad to hear that you are doing well on SB! There are a lot of people using that plan and a whole section with foods, recipes, too.

Grad school, thesis, more than one job...all a recipe for stress, and stress is a recipe for weight gain! I'd highly recommend yoga to destress. Even my blood pressure gets lower after a yoga session!

You can do this, but first get your head in a good place. Once your head is in a good place, the body will follow it!
