Anyone going to a Passover Seder?

  • I'm going to one at my parents tonight. Gotta be careful. You are supposed to drink 4 cups of wine (!) but you don't have to finish them and then there's all the matzo and a festive meal as well.

My plan is to have less than 10 oz or so of wine, total, a couple matzos (they're only 100 cal each and my mom gets whole wheat), a reasonable serving of a side dish and entree, and a reasonable portion of dessert. I hope to leave without feeling all bloated and gross like I usually do.
  • Your plan sounds good! You could limit the wine even more, I think, but no real need to. Be sure to check the carbs in it, though...

    Good luck!

  • Not going to one, I'm HOSTING one. I already told hubby ZERO wine for me, ZERO matzo for me. I love matzo and therefore I have to stay away from it completely.

For dinner I am serving matzo ball soup. I'll have the soup, I won't have a matzo ball. I made precisely the amount of matzo balls I need for my family and my guests. I purposely didn't make one for myself. I am serving a pot roast with carrots and gravy. I may have one slice of it with a carrot. I'm serving garlic/apricot chicken. I will probably be having a 1/2 breast. I'm serving potato kugel. I won't touch it. And I'm serving tons of roasted asparagus and brussel sprouts with garlic. I'll be eating lots of that. Dessert is cut up cantalope, watermelon, grapes and strawberries. Maybe I'll have a couple of the strawberries.
  • Uh-oh, I forgot about matzo ball soup!! I think I'll have a bowl of it and cut down on the wine, as Jay suggested. I'm going to go enter everything into Fitday and see how it comes out.

OK, Fitday's ok with my plan!
  • off-topic (kinda), but at least be glad you aren't going to a Matzo Ball eating competition, choking down dusty, tennis-ball sized spheres like Emily Yoffe did for Slate:

This makes me laugh (and gets me horrified) everytime I read it.
