I am new to this site and am beginning a new phase in my life. I plan to retire the end of May. I would like to lose a substantial amount of weight (about 60 lbs.). I have been a vegetarian most of my adult life, although I did go through "phases." I have found it challenging to do a vegie diet and diet. I am searching for a good diet plan (obviously Atkins is out) and am debating between weight watchers and South Beach. Any one have any opinions as to which is most veg friendly?
I am reading the The Beck Diet Solution -- a book just published. I am a psychologist and really believe in cognitive therapy and this book is based entirely upon cognitive therapy and the author's experience counseling dieters using cognitive therapy. I think as vegies we have a heads-up on this approach anyway, because we are already able to say no to a huge class of foods. We just need to expand and refine our skills and use them to our advantage so we can diet successfully. The book is a six week plan with the first to weeks being mental preparation. There is a task a day for six weeks. It is simple and easy to understand and makes good sense.
Anyone out there willing to try it with me?
Ammama
P.S. Ammama means "mother's mother" -- my title with my half- East Indian granddaughter who is 3 years old. I am visiting her now. Such fun.

Still looking for a diet buddy?
Hi, I'm a long time vegetarian just starting the Beck Diet and I'm looking for support and encouragement I am convinced cognitive therapy could work and this could be the diet to end all dieting - the result being making eating like a thin person a habit! Anyone still looking for a vegetarian Beck diet buddy?
