  • hey girls

im new to this. soo bear with me so, im 18 and i was diagnosed with PCOS about a few months ago. sooo about 8th grade I hit 140. My mom was doing SB diet bc her wedding was coming up...so i did it also..what the heck right? i lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks without doing any exercise. i was so proud of myself. then...this past oct( now a senior) i moved into my dads house. i put back on all that weight that i was keeping off for 4 years. i now weighed about 147. I then found out I had PCOS. i was put on a diet, but i didnt follw it b/c i was going thru a hard time in my life...im an emotional eater
so i moved back i nto my moms house and i was soo disguted with my weight that i wanted to do the south beach diet again bc it was a life saver to me before. but there was one obstacle....my GYN told me that i couldnt lose weight. so that discouraged me jusstt a lil.... at the same time i was thinkging...if i cant lose weight, then how did i lose weight before? well anyways, i kept struggling thro on SB and then i saw the commerical for HipHop Abs. I was so pumped about this product just from seeing the success stories...i made my mom buy it. It's coming on friday !!! sommee how i've lost 5 lbs with doing the southbeach diet on and off for about 8 days... im taking diet pills too.trimpsa. i want to go abc kto my reg weight. 115. I know that may sound really small for a 18 yr old. but i am very short for a sen. in HS. thats also frustrating...i look heavier than i really am bc im so short. and to top it off my GYN told me that i could b about 110-113 if i didnt have this PCOS thing. you donnt tell that to a girl. am i right? well.. i would love you girl's advice. and your weight loss stories!!

  • Welcome,

I'm not sure why your Gyn would tell you that you can't lose weight. I will say a few things and one is you are still growing, you could even gain a few inches in the next couple years. I went from 5'4 to 5'6 while in college. So I'd still make sure you are watching your nutrition. SBD is pretty good so I wouldn't be worried too much about it being too restrictive.

Also, try to get in your exercise including secondary exercise such as walking and what not. Any extra activity helps a little.

I'm not so sure about diet pills because I don't trust them but you might want to mention to your doctor that you are taking them just so that they can understand what you are doing.

    Welcome and good luck.
  • SBD is a great diet for those with PCOS. Really, any diet that restricts the bad carbs is a good choice for us. I'm sorry that your GYN gave you such a hard time. You certainly can lose weight, and you should! Easier now why you are young than to wait until you get older.

As for the diet pills, I know they're tempting - they really do make things easier. But, they can have bad effects on your health. I took them before, when I was 20 and looking for a quick fix. I found it - lost about 70 pounds and kept most of it all off until I was almost 22 - then the weight started coming back on. By 23 I was heavier than I'd ever been. And despite trying numerous diets (except for SB) I didn't lose any weight. It was frustrating!

Good luck in your weight loss endeavors, if you have any other questions about PCOS please ask. PCOS is a health issue, it affects so much more than just our weight or our fertility.
