That's it! Must be my Adrenal Glands...

  • I must be fat because of my adrenal glands!

    Did You Know Your Adrenal Glands Can Cause:

    * Out of breath climbing stairs? (happens to me!)
    * Tired at 3 PM but wide awake at 3 AM? (YES!)
    * Hard to get up in the mornings? (Of course!)
    * Stiff, painful joints? (OMG it hurts right now!)
    * Hot flashes? Night sweats? (Yeah, but I thought it was menopause?)
    * Low back weakness or pain? (I thought that was my herniated disc!)
    * Fluid retention? Always thirsty? (Yes, that's me alright!)
    * Crave salty and cheesy foods? (All the time! Specially SALTY!)
    * Heavy breathing? (Yeah. And not the *good* kind either!)
    * Perspire after getting out of the shower? (Yes! I do this!)
    * Nervousness? (Yeah)
    * Ringing in ears? (yeah, I do have that!)
    * Enlarged abdomen, belly fat? (It IS enlarged!)
    * Exercising doesn't help lose weight, or even causes weight gain? (Doesn't seem to!)

    Your adrenals are small glands that live on top of your kidneys. They are your "stress glands" and help your body deal with and recover from physical and mental stress. Adrenal problems can be caused by:

    * Long-term stress. (yup)
    * Sugar, caffeine and alcohol. (yup - sugar/caffeine mostly!)
    * Herbal weight-loss pills. (tried it)
    * Poor sleep (having to stay awake frequently, changing sleep schedules). (all the time!)
    * Steroid drugs (cortisone shots, inhalers, etc.) (yup!)
    * Stress from other chronic health conditions, illnesses, etc. (YesYesYES!)

    See? That's all ME! So that MUST BE my problem, right? Although reading such is very interesting & quite often informative, it just seems way too easy to blame anything other than the old fashioned "hand to mouth" method of eating too much... & not exercising enough.

    But I can't help it! - when I see/read something that describes me to a "T" - I get all fluttery "Yes! that's it! That's GOT to be IT!" Then something comes along shortly & either disproves the theory or adds to it or shows that those symptoms can also be any one of 20 other things....

    But I swear.... I think it's my adrenal glands!

  • If that were the case, all us chickies would be diagnosed with adrenal problems!!! It sure pegs me!
  • !!!Sarcasm is my favorite coping mechanism...and I can always use a good chuckle.

    Thankyou (genuinely!)

  • Well there we go...and further more, everytime you think about losing weight you get a little stressed which causes the adrenals to overreact.
  • Chicks, it is ALL connected. Yep, the adrenals are the primary organs that react to stress, and we are all SO stressed out! But which came first, the chick or the egg, so to speak?

    Hmmmm...

  • Now, IM NO expert, but my mother is a naturopath.. does a lot of homeopathy and such..so i learned some.. and what i know( or have learned) is the Adrenals support your heart. . so... if you have a weak heart, or any issue with your heart, your Adrenals kick in overtime. . it can cause a lot of water retention and thats where the craving salty stuff comes in. . when you dont get a lot of sleep and or stress-- same thing. your adrenals go put in some overtime to correct the situtation. . alot of overweight people (myself included!!) have un-diagnosed issues with there adrenal glands and kidneys. -- and the easiest way to resolve this ( i was taught.. this is NOT NOT NOT advice from a Doctor ) --- but is to add Lemon to your water. Lemon is full of electricity ( ever see that science project that a raw lemon can power a small clock?) and since your body runs on electricty, ( the firing of neurons, ect..) you essentially RECHARGE your body and support your heart and adrenals. -- just some quick knowledge.. thought i would add my two cents. take it or leave it !

  • Great post. Nothing got my body in this situation but me. You can't snarf down entire bags of Chips Ahoy and not expect the laws of mathematics to catch up with you! I don't think it was my adrenals doing the eating LOL.
  • Lana, thanks for the great tip with the lemons!! I'm always looking for a natural way to do good things for my body. Raw fruits and veggies are the best. I'll juice a lemon today - can't hurt, might help! THANKS.
